I am sure this has been asked many time before but i need help disassembling my brush hog to replace the deck. The gearbox was bolted to a platform above the deck and the lower gear was between the platform and deck. I unbolted the gearbox on top and the lower gear box beneath the platform, which was bolted to the top platform not the deck. The whole assembly is just as solid as it was bolted. How do i take it apart? Am i doing this wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The lower part of the gearbox downshaft housing is an interference fit into the deck. This feature helps give the lower housing incredible strength in the area of the lower bearing. Lube the collar with the penetrating oil of your choice and try rotating the entire gearbox to break the rust loose. There may be a clamp bolt through a collar welded to the deck; be sure to loosen or remove it.

Have you removed the rotating disc/stumpjumper from the transmission vertical shaft yet?

Yes i did that. the upper part of the gearbox now wiggles a little. the lower part of the gear box between the deck and platform is what does not want to move.

I'm soaking it with PB blaster to see if that unfreezes it.
