Hi everyone, was reading a post earlier about how the oil level in the front axles of the BX being low. I checked mine and it is low about a little less than half on the dipstick. My question is what do I use to fill it gear oil or SUDT? I have not changed it yet so it has the factory oil in it.

I use SUDT in all 3 of my BXs.

The level sounds correct. Check your manual. The axel does not run full.

my bx24 was low after break-in. it wasn't low when i checked it right after the dealer delivered, but after several hours of use, it was low to the point it didn't even touch the dipstick.

i approached the dealer in a friendly way and asked them for some SUDT to top it off. i told them I didn't suck any out, so if it was low, it was under filled from the factory or it was leaking out and should be covered by warranty. either way, it was on kubota to get it leveled right. they gave me some extra in the bottom of a five gallon bucket to top it off (and shut me up ;-)

later, at the 50 hour first service, i replaced it along with the hst/hydraulics. no more probs...

to answer your original question, the manual says you can use gear oil up front. i asked the dealer about this and they told me not to mix it with sudt. you can use either/or, but not both at the same time. if you want to go gear oil, you must drain out all the sudt and probably rinse with some seafoam or diesel or other light solvent to clean out the residue. i would probably run it 5-10 minutes with seafoam and then blow it out real good with compressed air or let it drain for several hours with all drain holes open, etc....

I use synthetic gear oil. The manual specs either, which for the life of me I don't understand as the vecosity of the lubricants is completely different. One is a hyd fluid and the other is a gear oil. Go figure. Use OEM recommend lubricants.;)

I have UDT in mine haven't had any problems, but when its time to change it I think I will go with gear oil. Front axle oil was low to when I got it from the dealer too.

I just checked mine, it was about 2 quarts low. I've never checked it and the machine has about 110 hours on it. I used super UDT.

The reason they are low is due to the fluid working its way to the ends of the axle. They are full at delivery because the fluid is not worked out to the ends. Once you put some time on it...top it off and you should be good.
