WRECKER RATES

   / WRECKER RATES #2
Rates vary depending on circumstances here. Such as if the vehicle is off the road, in a snow bank, in an accident, size of vehicle, etc. Just picking up a car vehicle from a highway breakdown rates are about the same. Since you've had your pickups breakdown 3 times since Nov. you might want to add towing to your insurance policy or join Triple A. It would have paid for itself after the first tow.

Pretty comparable to this area. Like George mentioned....... prices will vary greatly depending on the job. Obviously you will pay more for "emergency service", such as in the case of an accident. And i'd expect to pay at least double that for any recovery work. Around here there is plenty of competition, so making a few calls (if you are in the position to do so) could save a few bucks. Like with any other business, costs are comparable between competitors in the same area, so if one company gives a price way below their competitors, beware. You don't want an uninsured tower with your vehicle on the hook.

Around here, $50 will get you a basic tow within town. I don't know what they charge for mileage if your going a distance and luckily have never had to have a vehicle "recovered".

I don't know what "private" tows cost now, but probably about the same as if the police have one towed. In Dallas, there is currently a $95 towing fee, and if a vehicle is impounded, there's a $20 impound fee, and $20 a day storage fees. The first of the year (in other words, in the last 4 days) Dallas has started towing uninsured vehicles they stop for traffic violations, so then proof of insurance is required to retrieve the vehicle from the pound.

Of course that's all more than double the amounts charged when I was in charge of that operation 25 years ago.:D

I dont know the rates but since I have triple A since 1988 and it has paid for itself many times over. I am not sure how they managed to stay in business with me being a member. :p Lbrown- is there a reason you asked ?

I've only been a member for 6 years. I called them once because of a flat tire, but got tired of waiting, changed it myself, then called them back to cancel the call. And I called them once, thinking I was going to need a tow, but he jump started it. I've also had my auto insurance and homeowners insurance with triple A for the past 3 years, and no claims at all on those, so I've probably more than paid for your service.:D

Locally, it's $125 to pull a Massey Ferguson out of a ravine with Moneymaker's semi truck wrecker. :D

Yes, that really is their name, and no, it wasn't mine. :)
