Truck is having hard time starting.. turning key gives a good clunk.. hitting it 3-4 times and she catches and start spins over like no problem. one of them gear reduction units it looks like. Guess i will be climbing under there int he morning and pulling if I can find one in an auto store locally. Sure hate to work on modern vehicles.. but.. gotta have the truck starting correctly.
Just looking under with a flashlight tonight looks like big power wire and a smaller wire hookup somewhere to the top of the starter.. figure power and solenoid connections.. was able to feel around and feels like a '2-bolt' job.
Anyone pull one of these? is solenoid integral to starter like it looks from the fender well.
Any magic-guru special tools needed? I got regular sae and metric sockets and wrenches for my tractors.
truck is a 98 dodge ram 4x4 with 5.9lv8 napa online and autozone 'appear' to carry the starter so i might be able to find one tomorrow morning.
thanks for any advice.
did I mention i hated to work on anything newer than 70's!!!
