I had found that my '05 5.3 Chevy Crew 4x4 didn't like towing the 40 horse Kioti & implements up the steep grades in our county....it would shift down to first:mad:. We bought a used diesel Jetta last Jan & have put over 30K on it since. I have been pleased with it's performance & fuel mileage. So i started thinking about a Diesel truck.

After picking up the '05 at the Chevy dealership for some minor warranty repair work, i checked on new truck prices. I was disapointed in the lack of any drastic incentives on GM's part after hearing all their woe. The dealership said that they sold 140 vehicles last month....hmmmm. Anyway, i asked about a used Duramax & they had just got one in: 3500 Silverado Ext cab, 4x4 dually, hidden goosneck hitch, Line-x, & running boards. It had 34K miles on it so i took a look/drive. Not a mark on the truck, clean, well taken care of. Pulled the carfax-one owner, the service records showed one warranty repair of the steering shaft(same one replaced on my '05 last year). They wanted 22K. It didn't have cruise control, so they agreed to add a GM one.

After some quick negotiations they ended up giving me 15,600 for my '05(well over high blue bok value). I thought it was a fare deal, so they installed the cruise & i drove it home. A couple of years ago i wouldn't have been able to touch a truck like this for under 30K.

I am pretty sure i won't have anymore towing problems....:D. Just wondering if anyone else has taken advantage of the "economy" to get a good deal on Diesel?

I had a guy at my place today with a 01 that looked just like yours, except he has a flat bed on it. He told me that he has over 360,000 miles on it so far and it's still running strong. He mentioned that Chevy had to replace the injectors three times, but that they got that all worked out in the newer trucks.

That many miles out of a truck if pretty impressive!!! Hope you do as well.

I have a 2004 Duramax in our motorhome. Couldn't be happier with it's ability to move 24,000 + lbs.
You may want to spend some time on Diesel Place getting to know your Duramax. The only problem that keeps showing up on the LB7 engine is injectors. GM has given a 200,000 mile warranty on them. Another repair you may want to look at is permanent repair for the steering shaft. There is a DIY section that gives info on how to make repair easily.

Congrats on the new to you truck. I tried to take advantage of the tough times and deal on a new 2008 2500 diesel Ram. The dealer had 20 new 2008 pickups on the lot in late October. I picked the one that had the features I wanted and made my "best" internet offer. List was $46k+ and I offered $28k cash. They called me a few days later and left a message to call back. They never followed up again. I'm busy trying to refinace my home now so I'm out of the truck market until that is settled. Last time I looked they still had 19 of the 2008 trucks left. They may be more willing to deal now????
