Alaskan MK III portable saw mill

Anyone have one of these saw mills? Do you like it?

Everyone that has one usually like them for specific propose. usually slabing down a HUGE log into something they can fit onto there band mill.

I dont know of many that actually try to cut "small" lumber with them... instead opting to use it to cut cants/beams and slabs.

I have and use the small log mill for years with great results. Not for making 2x4s, but to get wood for furniture and such.

There is no replacement for displacement, you need bigger chainsaw than you think you need and it is still hard work to mill logs.

to go along with what czech said....

MOst of the forestryforum guys run like 36" + bars on 066 or larger saws. a lot use skip tooth ripping chain.

Ain't that the truth? You see some interesting topic, you check out the suggested reading, and the next thing you know you are walking around the yard wearing orange chaps, a hard hat and ear protectors the size of large bagels!
