These ramps are 6" feet long. They and their mount are built entirely from scrap.

The ramps are built from heavy duty old sign posts and 2" channel. A piece of the larger pipe is welded to the end of each ramp.

The mount is made from two heavy pipes one of which fits inside the other. The three mounts attached to the trailer are made from the larger pipe with a piece of 2" channel welded to it. The channel is then welded to the trailer.

The smaller pipe was cut to length, a stop was welded onto one end. A bolt is used as a pin on the other end.

The ramps slide in and out far enough to allow almost anything to be loaded. They can easily be removed or installed in a few minutes. Reinstalling is easier with two people.

I am guessing it had a rail at one time and has since been removed and that is whats left of it.

Exactly right. The trailer was originally built with rails. About 15 years ago my father had the rails cut off and reattached sticking almost straight out to make it easier to haul hay bails two wide. The rails sticking out made the trailer more than 8' wide.

He sold the cattle about 10 years ago and the trailer has sat in a field rusting since. All of the rust was removed, additional supports were added across the frame, the ramps were added to replace ramps that had disappeared, the legs were added at the back and new wood was installed.

We put the legs on the back of the trailer so they would not stick out the back. If I have problems with the ramps flexing I will add triangle shaped legs.
