Too harsh or not harsh enough isn't the right question.

Here's the answer to the right question;
They're not EFFECTIVE enough at curing the problem.

Argue all you want numbers, limits, fines, suspensions; the bottom line is that far too many people get killed by drunks on the roads.

I am the opposite end of the spectrum. I prefer the law in Iran. if caught driving drunk it is summary execution on the spot.

Can we please stop this thread and start arguing about Kubota vs. John Deere???
.

Good Evenin Steve,
I have read and enjoyed many of your posts in the past, but a summary excution on the spot seems a bit much, if you dont mind me saying so ! You obviously have a zero tolerance towards alcohol period ! Thats fine and I asked you for your opinion just like everyone else, so Im not going to berate you for an opinion. But please let me ask you a question. If you had a young son or daughter that had made a terrible mistake, and got behind the wheel while drunk, can you honestly tell me that excution on the spot would be a suitable form of punishment ?

When I was in grade school many years ago, I remember reading about life styles and cultures in Afganistan. In that country many years ago, if you were caught stealing, they would cut off your right hand at the crime ! :eek: The problem with that was that you needed your right hand to eat out of the community food bowl, you could not use your left hand because it was used .... well lets say to perform some inmentionable tasks ! So if you didnt have any family, your fate was probablly starvation ! Sounds pretty Draconian to me, along with your endorsement of death at the scene of the crime ! If it was my son or yours I would feel the same way ! Stiffer penalties maybe, but when the prisons are loaded with career criminals that have raped and murdered watching color TV, your going to have a hard time convincing many of that form of punsihment !

*1. Does anyone know what happen to this person?

Since it was his first controversial thread since 2004.

my gosh it feels good!

Good Evenin Bill,
You want to know what happened to me, I think they call it work ! :rolleyes: Sorry to have dissappointed you !

It takes a real man like Eddie to get the wake up call, smell the coffee, and change his behavior.

And what if before Eddie got arrested, he actually hit and killed someone while driving drunk before he got arrested the first time? Is he still a "real man" after he killed someone, but realized his mistake AFTER the fact?

By the way, I stopped drinking April 4th, 1995, a good 3 years after I blew a .28 I mention that only for the fact that I changed my behavior (drinking), but it was not due to the court system.

Sig, I thought we became comatose at 0.30, WOW, that was close!:D

Alcohol and Your Body

Why did it take you 3 years to stop after blowing a 0.28?, when Eddie wised up right away.:confused:

I'm happy that no one here, you, Eddie, or any TBN member has killed anyone while driving.;)

Sober, or not. Driving is serious business. :)

Over 100 people a day lose their lives on the American highway. :(

So why did you stop drinking Sig? :confused: A friend of mine claimed he saw the devil while drunk, and he stopped drinking then.:eek:

Good Mornin Johndeere,
Im truly sorry that your life was so affected by a drunk ! Im also very sorry to hear that you were injured and lost your CDL.

But
I have a hard time with someone being sent away to jail for 20 years after being stopped in a routine check after consumming two beers JMHO !
I don't cause
who said he had to have had the 2 beers?
Why is it so critical to have those 2 beers anyway for cryin out loud?

Good Evenin LB,
Please dont take what I say out of context !

First of all I am sorry for anyone injured by a drunk driver, including Johndeere4300 !

With todays laws no one is getting sent away for 20 years after consumming 2 beers ! That was a previous post and proposal by Johndeere4300 that I copied and replied to his previous post !

My wife and i where hit from behind this past fall going out to dinner while sitting infront of a stop light ! We never knew what hit us because this bozo didnt evnen have his lights on ! He wasnt slightly impaired he was totally drunk !!! So believe me when i say that I want drunks off the road as bad as anyone else !

I still feel that I should be able to go out to dinner with my wife and have a glass of wine and not be pulled over at a roadblock and be considered impaired !

Sig, I thought we became comatose at 0.30, WOW, that was close!

One guy in court with me blew a .42

Why did it take you 3 years to stop after blowing a 0.28?, when Eddie wised up right away

I can't speak for Eddie, but did he wise up right away? For some, spending a night in a drunk tank might be enough to "prove" there is a problem.

I loved it when I admitted to the court that I was at fault. Went to a counsler, he spoke to the lawyer, and I was still going to get off relatively scott free (due to the time/year). I admitted to the judge that I was wrong, and I had a problem and I was willing to pay for my mistake. The judge was dumbfounded and didn't know what to say. The lawyer rheemed my butt out for admitting any guilt and told me never to open my mouth again.

Talk about a legal system trying to actually help someone.

By the way, I've had more than one DUI.

I'm happy that no one here, you, Eddie, or any TBN member has killed anyone while driving

I'm not happy that I didn't kill anyone, but grateful to my God as I know him.

So why did you stop drinking Sig?

First, the love of my parents that I never realized, second, the love of my God that I ignored in the past because I thought he had forsaken me and I had become a bad person.

scott_vt ... I know no one here is 'advocating" drunk driving and yes you are discussing two beers but therein lies the Dichotomy. One can not discuss "two beers" without discussing drunk driving since they are synonymous with each other, and I might add where most people kid themselves.

For someone about 150 pounds, two drinks ( equals two beers ) in two hours would probably make you legally drunk (.08 blood alcohol level). It doesn't take much alcohol at all to make you legally drunk, and alcohol stays in your system for hours before it is all gone.

All states in the United States have adopted 0.08% (80 mg/dL) as the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle for drivers aged 21 years or older. However, drivers under age 21 years are not allowed to operate a motor vehicle with any level of alcohol in their system.

According to the CDC - Note: Legal limits do not define a level below which it is safe to operate a vehicle or engage in some other activity. Impairment due to alcohol use begins to occur at levels well below the legal limit. YET, people in general define the level to operate a vehicle safely is TWO BEERS. Sorry to break peoples bubble but that level has never been defined and anyone who say it's two beers is frankly a liar.

No two people on the planet react the same to equal amounts of alcohol in two beers. Two beers for many is called a buzz, for others it's called getting your whistle wet.

Individual reactions to alcohol vary, and are influenced by many factors, including but not limited to

* Age.
* Gender.
* Race or ethnicity.
* Physical condition (weight, fitness level, etc).
* Amount of food consumed before drinking.
* How quickly the alcohol was consumed.
* Use of drugs or prescription medicines.
* Family history of alcohol problems.

A standard drink is equal to 13.7 grams (0.6 ounces) of pure alcohol or

* 12-ounces of beer.
* 8-ounces of malt liquor.
* 5-ounces of wine.
* 1.5-ounces or a 都hot of 80-proof distilled spirits or liquor (e.g., gin, rum, vodka, or whiskey).

So you can see two beers is equal to two drinks and in some states "depending on the above" you are considered drunk.

ANY alcohol use slows reaction time and impairs judgment and coordination, which are all skills needed to drive a car safely.2 The more alcohol consumed, the greater the impairment obviously, but two beers will also impair you and there is enough science out there to prove that, no matter what someone says.

True on all of that, (mentioned was TWO BEERS)
