Just how do you BUY AMERICAN?

/ Just how do you BUY AMERICAN? #81
I think it's near impossible to buy American because our government has over regulated and taxed industry out of the USA and the American companies that remain have so little profit left after they pay all the taxes and regulations that they find it's cheaper to have it made for them offshore.

Whoa! Let's not forget what union labor rates have done to the companies.

Recently on the news they were talking about the average rate for automobile workers, and said it was about Seventy bucks an hour. I've got no way to double check what they said, but that is just too darn much.

I'm not letting way overpaid "executives" off the hook either. Between the unions and exec's, many of our businesses and industries have done most of the damage to themselves.

The enemy is not China. The enemy is greed!

TomWhite go back to thread #53 and watch the video i put up. And before you say i make to much money what do you do and how much do you make.

I am sick of everybody in North America knowing how much i make. BUT no one is will to step up and state how much they make or benefits etc.

I make as much as they will pay me,but since I am not governed by a union, that varys from job to job[not unlike union wages],in that regard but they will try and get you for as low as they can.
I am my own bussiness agent and union steward on every job I go on,most times I have no benifits at all, jobs are generally all job by job[construction].When I'm laid off or next job is too far for me to go,its up to me and me only to find next one.
In order to get this job,I've had to go to college for three years,I've had to go to many other tech schools to learn various things needed,I've had to take certification tests and maintain a certification,THIS ALL AT MY OWN EXPENSE. So what do I make for all that and 25 plus years experience,,about 35 an hour and expenses, generally no,repete no,benifits.

Believe me i am not pushing any union, but they do have there place.

So Greenmule let me ask a couple of questions, lets say your trade comes to the forefront and people start saying IF you made $20 an hour i could go and by a house [ie]BUT those construction workers make to much is that fair to you?

One more question if you were offered a job in the auto industry for "$70" which is more like $28 to $30 would you take it? Keep in mind you will work long hours when it is busy probably Saturdays you will most likely not see daylight for a week. It takes me about 5-6 min to walk to the closest door. I have surgery on both knees and my shoulder.

I could go on but the reality is most people can't do it. Believe me there is a reason we get paid what we do. and yes i appreciate it.

I know i was asking you specific questions but this is for most people that just say we make to much, there is alot more that meets the eye.

I was watching the news last night and saw Sheetrock is being made in China and builders are using it over here. The story was about a homeowner who started getting sick and items laid by the walls were turning black. After a long search it was finally decided the Sheetrock was the cause. One of the ingredients used to make the Sheetrock was causing all the problems. Now, the homeowner cannot even sell the house. Totally ridiculous with everything being made over there.

Shane, you are right about those factory jobs being well, factory type jobs,I know what you mean.No at my age and used to what I'm used to,I wouldn't last a week before they run me off.

But what I'm saying is if the going wage for basicly low skilled labor is well over 20 an hour, than what do you think the going wage is going to be for highly skilled labor?[Now before you get all mad about the word lowskilled,I know there are every kind of highly skilled labor in the auto indudtry],its just that most jobs in that industry is not highly skilled, and you could train most people to do 3/4th's of them in a couple days or so.

When your lower rung type jobs[jobs that don't require a good bit of education/experience etc.,],get 20-30 bucks an hour than every thing else goes up to.Plus the product you make becomes more and more expensive, and doesn't necessarly get better with that price increase.[I remember the 70's,u.s. cars and trucks were junk].

If everybody gets paid the same,no matter their skill level, than thats communisim, and it don't work.
I think everybody should get paid as much as they can,its just if the guy directing traffic gets paid as much as a backhoe operator ,than the operator is going to ask for much more money, and get it.

Now,what are you getting paid,I told you what I was getting paid, and you brought it up.

Unions some bad some good
case in point Union shop had a machine that had 2 employees working on that station automated the machine only needed 1 person production and quality went down yet while all the time I was the standing by the machine production and quality went up??? when I came in every morning I would check with my maint. crew and tour the plant to make sure everything was running well when I came up to the Amade NC punch press and saw the operator a little bit tipsy I walked up to him and he smelled of alcohol Told him not to run the machine he told me to go F-- myself I went to see his Foreman and told him about the problem he said I don't what anything to do with this went to human resources manger she told me he had been fired twice before for drinking on the job ,so her and I went down to see him and asked if he would go to the doctor and take a blood alcohol test he agreed came back as .32 she fired him again BUT he got his job back as long he resigned as chief union Stewart.
The plant was eventually sold and moved out of state to non union ,set up the machines in there plant trained operator on the machine that I had eliminate a person from and after 3 days 5X more production less than.4 waste???

This was the the problem with that Local another local I was subbing work to were excellent workers and high quality work.

Im curious, was it actual "sheetrock" the brand or are you using the term in general? Ive only seen actual sheetrock brand products made in Canada (CGC) or the US. It wouldnt surprise me though if they are making it overseas. Guess i'll have to start reading the labels on my drywall too :rolleyes:There was a drywall plant in my Provence that was closed recently citing high costs and reduced construction. Maybe they shipped those jobs to china?

I wonder if the items by the wall were turning black because of mold?
