I do concider the Fiat van a lesser duty class than the Sprinter: the Sprinter came in 3.5 and 5 ton versions, both rear wheel drive, respectively 6.3 and 8.75 ton combined vehicle weight.
The Fiat is front wheel drive, 3.5 and 4 ton versions, and a combined vehicle weight of only 6 tons, because the homokinetic joints would bust otherwise.

Getting a fuel efficient car by 2010 is too late for Chrysler, Ford, or GM. I read a article a month back that said Audi takes a car from paper to the show room in 9-11 months. The big 3 take 7-9 years. No wonder they are loosing the race. They can not adapt to what the market wants quick enough. In today's society we want it now, not tomorrow.

The ****...what joints?
Is that what we refer to as constant velocity (CV) joints?

yea just like they need more money.

Diamond i disagree i belive ford a GM can make a fuel efficent car by 2010 they have them now really,but Dodge really needs to get off the hemi and if they dont there gone even with Fiat.

Thanks for pointing that out. You have hands on with both vehicles which is great. What's your opinion of Fiat buying into Chrysler or Fiat's in general? And their chances in NA.

Yes, while i was typing i thought we've discussed that before... but because somebody cut 'n paste the word out of an online dictionary (proving its a legitimate English word) i didnt bother to google up a synonym.

Hmmm Fiat... There was this saying... that you needed to treat a Fiat with anti-rust whilst still on the sales leaflet... Still their quality... has been 7 years since i've been in one... But fit&finish on Iveco vans (also FIAT group) is a bit rough... Their regular sized cars dont sell much, and the smaller ones are worn after 150.000 km like most small cars..
I'd say most italian brands of cars just fill a niche market, people that take their electronic breakdowns for granted because they just want the car because of the styling...

AS far as i know Fiat, and the American buyer, i dont think a lot of you guys would fancy them...

Renze, Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that Fiat had made some significant improvements. It sounds like their reputation from the '70's may still be accurate

. Not good, If their going to have a chance here they're going to get any corrosion and electrical issues under control. If they're rusting in Europe, they wouldn't last very long here with the salt thats put on the road.

I do think they got the styling thing mastered though

The completion of this deal is contingent upon Chrysler obtaining an additional $3B in gov't funds.

Chrysler wants the remaining 3B of the 7B they originally requested. With all the unions and everybody else on board, i dont think the remaining money will be an issue. This is pretty much the only hope Chrysler has.
