Snow BX Snow plow Question

/ BX Snow plow Question #11
Hi Folks,

I'm contemplating the purchase of a BX25 and a few attachments to go with it. (aka in negotiations with the wife)
My question is about the 60" plow blade and it's effectiveness. My current snow removal equipment is a Simplicity Conquest tractor with a 42" blade. The problem I have with it is that the geometry of that blade/hitch combination (which is similar to that of the BX) is such that when the blade is angled, the trailing edge of the blade is about an inch higher than the leading edge. This results in my leaving unwanted snow near the side of the lane I'm plowing, rather than scraping down closer to the road surface as the leading edge does.

Is this at all a problem with the 60" BX plow?

Thanks Much!

Stradbash

I know you are talking about a new Kubota but on your simplicity are you pushing the lever all the way forward and locking it in the down position.
The reason why it does what you are talking about is because of the tension spring that help you lif tthe blade.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and feedback! It is most helpful.

When and if I get to use one of these on a tractor to see for myself, I will most certainly post again to let all know of my experience.

With the snow that I see falling out my window..., I'm wishing I had it now!

Good question! Yes, I am. I may be able to get more tension on the spring and reduce the problem, but I do believe the problem is with the basic geometry of the plow/hitch.

Have you thought about a rear blade? I use a rear blade, and using the adjustments on the 3 point, you can get it to lay flat. The problem is you are pretty much stuck with it at the angle. For my driveway that is not a problem.

I have thought of a rear blade and am thinking of it more and more now that a purchase seems to be imminent, there are no front blades available and it is still snowing! Over the last week when I have been out running I've seen two different folks out using rear blades. Though not nearly as versatile, I'm sure that I could get by with one for the rest of the winter since the wife insists I only have one tractor at a time. Seems as though she's afraid I'll turn into LBrown59!...

At the risk of thread-jacking (but I think this will help the OP), can anyone confirm the 54" front BX blade clears the tire path at full angle left or right? Would seem pretty close given the BX track is somewhere around 45". Also, does anyone have experience adding a second hydraulic cylinder to convert he 54" blade to power angle? I got quotes of about $600 less for the 54" vs 60". It seemed like a lot more for 6" more blade and power angling.

I got the 60'' Hyd. lift & angle blade for my BX1500.
It was well worth the money difference between it and the 54'' Manual angle blade.
I would not even consider the 54 incher.

The 60" blade is of much heavier construction, etc. than the 54", and is considered OK for grading dirt also, I think the 54" is mostly for snow, and very light dirt work.
