jeconn, Hows that new tractor? :):) You need to update your profile since you still have the L3400 listed ;)

Yea, "Next time I'm going to test the hitch before I sign." Thus my signature :p 627+ posts and counting - hopefully just to inform people that you really need to look over and "kick the tires"... drive it around as much as you can... with changing gears and directions (reverse) many times!!

Teg, I love it! I am a Kubota fan again. Thanks to you and everyone else who kept me motivated to keep pestering Kubota. I changed my sig.

Re: My quest for "Grand" 3 point performance from my "economy" tractor. The L3400

I noticed yesterday somewhere it says that the videos were done with an engine speed of 2,000 RPM.
That might be reasonable, I really don't know, but I tend to NOT lift things at such a high engine speed.
LOWERING, yes. e.g. when the engine is up to PTO speed, the tractor is traveling and I lower the mower or tiller.
OK, maybe I lift them at PTO speed, but probably don't notice any jerkiness a) There is no bucket of water there b) I'm traveling on less than smooth ground c) Maybe I anticipate that 500 or 600 lbs will shake the tractor around a bit when it comes off the ground - and again when it stops.
I'm trying to think through what might be "reasonable to expect".

Thanks for the postings EE_Bota, I had not been thinking very much about how the valves themselves work internally, i.e. sudden vs gradual closing, I had expected all that to be accounted for in the leverage and speed ratio of the linkages - and still think it could be with a particular design approach.

Actually, I have videos with both high and low RPM's, and there is not any difference... you can take my word or wade through a bunch of boring videos on youtube...

Tegtube - all of Teg's boring videos

Do you have the exact part numbers that they used in the replacement?

Thanks

Re: My quest for "Grand" 3 point performance from my "economy" tractor. The L3400

I second Teg.

For mine, RPM doesn't make a significant difference, if any. I picked 2000 RPMs because I find it a nice operating speed between puttering and PTO speed @ 2580 RPM per my owners manual.

I consider anything below 1500 RPM warm up or idle, maybe some will disagree. And it seems irrelevant if you can produce a smooth lift at a non-operating speeds from anything other than a diagnostic perspective.

My main concern was that all the videos through the changes were at the same speed. But I also felt that if I ran at full PTO speed people might be inclined to think I jacked up the RPMs to make it look worse than it is.

I doubt your asking about the LSV change so I'll get right to the PCV.

I replaced my PCV with 31351-39604. The original in my machine was YR909-00100. The latest L3400's appear to have YR908-00102, this valve is an option but there is plenty of speculation that it's a step backwards. 31351-39604 is the only valve confirmed to make the hitch smoother in older machines.

I have not read any reports of replacing the latest valve YR908-00102, with the previous 31351-39604. This is PCV YR908-00102, courtesy of Toy Camry:

What is the easiest way to find the part # on what I have installed in my L3400?

I don't seem to have the trouble all of you have...

thanks,

Re: My quest for "Grand" 3 point performance from my "economy" tractor. The L3400

J, Somewhere around January 2005 Kubota made a production line change to include P/N: 31351-39604 in all the new tractors. About the same time the complaints stopped coming in to TBN. Since yours is 2007 you probably have the valve I just upgraded to. Somewhere in early 2008 it appears Kubota switched to P/N: YR908-00102, soon after the complaints returned.

If you have a moment, check your S.No. for us and let us know what you have. If you have 15 minutes, take a video and let us see what you have. I've never seen one of the ones no one complains about.

For the L3400DT/HST:
S.No.;<=55651 P/N: 31391-39002
S.No.;>=55652 P/N: YR909-00100
S.No.;>=61731 P/N: 31351-39604
S.No.; Unknown P/N: YR908-00102

For the L2800DT/HST:
S.No.;<=53276 P/N: 31391-39002
S.No.;>=53277 P/N: YR909-00100
S.No.;>=57745 P/N: 31351-39604
S.No.; Unknown P/N: YR908-00102

If your tractor came equipped with draft control it should have PN: 31351-39604, or at least until PN: YR908-00102 came into being and maybe still.
