Where you buy and where you go for service

It's worse than that. The ferry won't consider booking a tractor/trailer or rollback on a weekend in either direction so it means a couple of days off work just to get the tractor off and then back on the island. Honestly I'd probably pay to have the dealer make a house call and come out ahead.

The silver lining of this situation is that I can easily justify buying any tool I like that might keep me from needing to get the tractor into a shop. And with the combo of TBN and telephone dealer support, so far there has been nothing I could not handle.

Drive the PT into the back of a pickup and take it yourself! :D

How big is the orange tractor?

I spoke with a dealer in Kingsport ,TN, and I was asking and talking about prices, and the subject of another dealer came up, he ask how far away it was and ect., and said they better like to drive that far when they have a problem with it, cause I ain't gonna fix it, don't have to and won't do it, going on about the price the other dealer gave, thats to low, I'd be afraid their going out of business trying to sell tractors that cheap, it's really crazy that someone would tell you they wouldn't work on a warranty issue, I've bought numerous cars and ect and moved state to state, and auto dealers love to do the warranty work, and it helps build a repore for me to buy from them in the future, just don't seem like good business sence to me,
There are 2 dealers in KPT, TN. If you were speaking to the Kubota dealer then you have to know that the Kubota dealer in Johnson City and Abingdon, Va would be happy to do any warranty work. If it was the New Holland dealer then West Hills NH in Jonesborough would be happy to do any warranty work. You may not get free pick up and delivery from one of these dealers but you would not be left with a tractor that you could not get serviced.
We service equipment purchased from all over the USA. If you need warranty on a product we sell, you will be serviced. Dealers that do not want to service equipment purchased from other dealers tend to be on their way out. Times have changed and people are more mobile these days and the Internet has changed the whole world.

I bought mine from a farm store 5 miles from home, but they are a sales point for a dealer 110 miles away. The "Local" service places are "brand snobbish", one place referred to a King Kutter tiller as "Garbage." I asked how much one of there tillers were--4200$
Anyway, Most service will be done at home, I'm a certified Auto Tech, fluids are fluids. A work mates brother-in-law is a mobile service guy for fork lifts and stuff, so when the weather breaks we will have him do the big 50 hr service (I'm at 75 Hours) only because i don't want to try to catch 15-20 gallons of fluids

Funny you mention that. My whole TBN experience started with a search for information on PTs and I almost bought a 425 except that I was po'd when they had a big price hike a week before I placed the order. After that I went to a 20hp (CK20) and now 40 hp (DK40se) so I'm well past getting the tractor into the back of a pickup now. I still have an affinity for PTs though now I lust after a used 1450 set up in the local classified.

I don't even own a tow vehicle or trailer with more than 5000lb capacity so I'm stuck with commercial tow/ramp trucks if the tractor is immobilized and needs to leave the island. If I can drive the tractor I can drive it on the ferry and just need the ramp truck on the other side which would save $$$.

FYI, NorthernTool sells a 58 quart oil drain collector on wheels ($99) that works very well. It still leaves you with the old oil to dispose of but it makes it easy to drain and store the engine and transmission oil.

disposing of it isn't a problem, I just don't want the "hassle" of catching it, transporting it to work, cleaning and storing the new pan. Have enough tools around the house now.
This being the 50 hr service, it will be a while until I need another, and having someone with a mobile service truck solves that problem, and i'm sure I will get a discount rate.
