Having experienced both systems (30 years in Canada and 10 now in the US). I can say that I'll take the US system any day. Of course, I work, pay taxes, and have decent health coverage. If I was relying on free health care then I would say Canada would be OK. Although the costs are just hidden in the taxes.

Complacency is a Canadian trait that I didn't seem to inherit. ;)

As you kinda said, its not free.

The US system is great here in the US . . . . IF you have a job, IF you have a good health insurance, IF you aren't too ill to work, IF your health insurance approves the surgery, IF your co-pay doesn't bankrupt you, IF your insurance company doesn't balance bill you. . . IF . .

In Canada, all equal, AND you can pay extra out of pocket to jump the queue and go private, which is still cheaper than the US.

In the US, we pay high taxes and get very little, if anything for them.

interesting thread...

i've never been able to breathe out both sides of my nose, as long as i can remember.....

my family dr. told me to force water up my nose with my hand, when i'm in the shower....it helps, but very little.......he prescribed me some pills that dry out the mucus (sp??) but that completely drys me out and once the pill wears off, it comes back with a vengeance, almost like i've dammed it up and then release it...

my wife says i snore extremely loud......heck, my buddies and i wen to the dunes to atv ride this past summer and they were all talking about how badly one of the buddies snored.....they laughed and laughed (this was my first trip to the dunes with them), the first night we slept in the 4 door truck......just about all of them said my snoring was sooooo bad that they went and slept in the trailer with the atvs and it was down in the 30's that night!

i've just dealt with it for my entire life, but lately, it's MUCH worse......i pretty much can't breathe at all.....i cough up so much stuff in the mornings that i drive with my window down so i can spit......it, often times gags me until i throw up....

i'm a scaredy pants too.....a buddy of mine had the surgery done and seemed so-so about it, i asked him if he'd do it again and he said most certainly so it must have helped more than the says......he said it didn't really hurt until he go up and stirred around- not following the dr.'s orders......he said the blood draining and packing with gals was annoying too.....this was about 12 years ago and he said he really needs it done again.....

we can go in together and hold hands:eek: i had a plantars wart removed from the bottom of my foot and was squirming and bracing myself.....the dr. said am i hurting you....i said no.....he said, you're acting like a 12 year old girl and then proceeded to laugh until he was done:rolleyes:
Last time i got it broke was 10 years ago so i've lived with it for a while too ..If you're interested i'll post my results...I think i have some one to hold hands with as i went in today to confirm and my nurse probably looks better than you..LOL.
But you're right on with the symptoms ,Coughing up junk in the mornings and feeling like a 24/7 cold..?

I'm an ex pat brit and only got my residency card 3 years ago ...Hate to think what i'd have to spend otherwise...(like we had to for the first 18 months)...Although working here seasonally for family for last 13 years untill i decided eventually..?

..Holy s#!t ...i never expected this many replies, Thank you all ....Well i'm booked in for monday morning at 6.45am at the victoria in winnipeg....
If i do end up like jacko i'll post the before and after pics lol...?????????

I'm considering tonight my .."Last meal" and enjoying a case of beer and a few cigars before the weekend de-tox..HaHa...?

Good for you. Sounds like you've been suffering for 10 years or so. Reclaim your health, it's time you live without a constant sinus infection D7E.:)

Just don't expect perfect results, some damage to your sinuses has been done and you could have seasonal sinus issues. Well at least I still do. Although I don't have a permament infection anymore..

Cigars..... Well it's one of my few vices, but it would be good to stop for a few weeks, at least until your membranes heal. Good luck

Well it's been a week now ???
The first 12 hours were the worst,Not really for pain but very uncomfortable ,Impossible to swallow/Eat or sneeze.Like some-one said ....Pinch off your nose and try to swallow...Ears popping/choking and pressure in your sinuses feels like your going to blow out the stitches.
I was kept in overnight because i was a bleeder and gagging up blood clots the size of a dollar coin was fun too.
After a week i'm still getting a small amount of blood clots in the morning,One nostril is breathing ok but the other (The side with the most work) is still swollen shut and painful.
Weirdest thing in it all is my top lip and gum is numb like you've just left the dentist...You would swear that they had cut a nerve or something.
Even after a week it is impossible to stay out in very cold weather for long as it starts to hurt and blocks up the sinuses to the point where the eyes start to water.
Doc had a look today and says all is normal so i hope things improve .....At the moment generally i think it's worse than before.

Hey Bud,

Be patient, it's early yet. Surgery is a huge insult to tissues, but it's meant to be better at the end of the day/week/month......

Hang in there.

Be of goode cheer. In a years time all will be well.:D

You don't really wanta be going outside in this winters temperature anyway. :D

It could be suggested that some 150 proof spirits be used for disinfecting exposed areas and the resulting fumes inhaled may furnish some relief but the medical staff will claim this would interfere with the antibiotics!:(

well, looks like i'm out :D my buddy said exactly what you are saying......he said the first week was the worst part......

my wife was telling me the other night about a friend of a friend type deal that had had sugery on his sinuses, got an infection and is now on life support in columbus, ohio.......keep the family in your prayers........

when she was telling me about this last night, i was thinking about this thread:eek:

i'm a wus!
