My dad just purchased a M-6950 Kubota with a blown motor. I was wondering if anyone here could tell me a little about this tractor. Here is what I know. It has a 1850 loader. The tractor is 4WD with about a 70 HP motor. My dad gave $400.00 for this tractor. I was wondering if this tractor is worth fixing the motor on or not. I guess the people that had it before him ran it out of oil. Does anyone know how much this loader would pic up? We think that it was purchased new in 1983?

Thanks,
Andy

Loader should pick up about 1850 kg. That's how Kubota names them, by the kg it can lift.

1850 kg = a bit over 4000 pounds

It's a great tractor with an engine used in many other models. I had the larger M8950 and it was the best tractor I ever owned.

For a brand new complete engine Kubota wants $8299.00 depending on the condition of the tractor that could be a good investment! To think that it might be able to be rebuilt with just a rod or two and a crank turn might make it a bit cheaper.

They are good reliable tractors and normally good for a lot of hours.

After doing somemore investigating it looks like the tractor is a 1988. Does anyone know what it might be worth with a blown motor?

It'd probably be worth more than $400 in just scrap metal. What is actually wrong with the engine? Did it throw a rod through the block? Have a cylinder head problem? Spin a bearing? Unless it ran-away or something and destroyed a lot of components it should be able to be rebuilt without breaking the bank. Here is a little info on the tractor.

It would seem like buying a new engine for that much for that tractor would be hard to justify. The rest of the tractor is still old and you can buy something else in better shape for less total dollars. YOu will spend plenty more than just the engine money.

That M6950 Kubota engine was used in a lot of models--some or many of which are in boneyards as we speak. Maybe cross reference the models and cubic inches and try to find one that runs and works fine. That would be my first option.

That is quite the tractor. please post photos. If the rest of the tractor is in good shape, it may be worth pulling the motor to find out the issue.

Well I found another 6950 tractor that the 4wd has some issues. The tractor runs good. The guy wants a $1,000 for it. It looks like I could take the 2 tractors and make one good one. I would think that this would be a good deal for around $1,400 total on the investment.
