Which is better on a round baler electric or hydr. tie , and what would I need to use electric tie on my tractor which is a 2003 New Holland TN 75 also are gehl balers pretty good balers and are parts hard to find for them now

Gehl balers without the floor belt are pretty good. IIRC that means 60 series and later machines. Parts availability is of concern as the line is simply discontinued, and further, Manitou has bought a majority interest in the rest of Gehl so there is little Gehl family pride driving parts availability into the future. Manual electric and manual hydraulic tie makes no difference so long as you have a remote valve available to control the hydraulic version and 12V to power the electrical style. Your fingers and brain control twine placement either way. Automatic tie systems are more consistent and require less efffort. Your TN has a 4 prong accessory plug at the back that will handle a 40 amp load; should be sufficient for amost any electric tie system. 81864735 is the New Holland part number for the mating plug.

Every thing Rick said was right on the money. I have a 2004 model Gehl 2580 that I traded a New Holland belt type baler for and the Gehl will out perform the New Holland as for speed and bale density. It has electric twine wrap that you can use in auto or manuel mode. I have not had no issues with parts as the machine has given no trouble at all. I do have an older Gehl Mower Conditioner that so far have had no issues with parts. My dealer said some offers are on the table from other companys to buy the Gehl Agricultural Line but so far nothing has been done. This machine is somewhat heavier than the New Holland so you need a little heavier tractor especially on hilly ground.

I believe most new balers are electric tie. I think it is just a technology evolution of the baler and your tractor won't care either way.

After using hydraulic twine arms which get bent out of shape on a Vermeer for years, I am persuaded that electric tie is better, but I suppose you could have trouble with that too.

I have to admit my baler has only run wrap. I have never run twine thru it,
