Trees that produce Seedlings

My first question would be why is the area open if surrounded by woods? If this is a field conversion and you want conifers, the cheapest is to order from the NYS DEC Saratoga Nursery. If you want a conifer with decent future value try Norway Spruce or European Larch. Think the cost is about $42/ 250 for 2/0 stock. Plant on 8x8 centers.

The area has many bare spots because the land was never upkept before we bought it so there were many dead trees from vines wind damage etc... I live in a storm valley so it gets extrmemly windy at times. I have spent some of the past 3 years clearing it all out and now have a large area that is open that I would like to fill in. Thanks for the advice

If you have a lot of storm damage, and high winds you may want to go with a nut tree, or a tree that puts down a larger taproot. It may stabalize the tree in the winds.
