I guess that is my point, I have a buddy that says tow it with what you have but something tells me by the time you look at the rust, the eng (which i could replace for a cost), and just the beating i know i have given it. I just can't help but think it would be just plan wrong for me to try to SAFELY tow this thing around. So a more capable truck is what i am after. NO matter what the brand. I love my dodge but the fords seem to be easier to find.

The main reason the Fords are so easy to find is they just about outsell the GM and Dodge offerings combined. Just a simple supply and demand thing. One thing you will find with the Fords is nearly 75% of all the F-250's and F-350's are diesel. It makes it hard to find a used one with a gas engine. I have been looking for a used V-10 F-350 SRW 4x4 to replace a 1999 F-350 7.3L diesel we lost last November due to a deer. It is next to impossible to find one that has not been worked to death. It seems the landscaping companies love the V-10 4x4 in our area and they have the beds all buggered up and they have spent their whole life pushing snow commercially or pulling a Bob Cat day in and day out.

False.

In 2008 GM sold 1,697,351 trucks.

In 2008 Ford sold 1,264,368 trucks

In 2008 Chrysler sold 1,055,033 trucks

For the month of December 2008 sales of heavy duty pickups, GM & Dodge outsold Ford 15,839 units to Ford's 15,052 units:

Chevy alone actually outsold Ford in light duty trucks in december 26,672 to Ford's 24,948 units. Throw in another 10,124 GMC light trucks and GM beats Ford in light truck sales by over 12,000 units in the month of December alone.

Depends how the numbers are added up. the last article you cite lists Ford F-Series as having a 47.83% market share for Heavy Duty trucks sold in December '08 at 15,052.
Chevy Silverado series came in at 21.59% and 6,668 trucks sold. GMC was 9.25% at 2,856 trucks sold and Dodge Ram was 20.44% at 6,315.

If you add together the GMC and Chevy, it still only accounts for 30.84%. Add in Dodge and you come up to 51.28%

So the point that Ford sells as many heavy duty trucks as Chevy, GMC, and Dodge combined is only 700 trucks away from being spot on. I'd say 700 out of 30,000 trucks sold in December of '08 is close enough to saying that Ford outsells the others combined.

I'm not trying to start a quoting war, just want to point out that surveys and numbers can always be grouped to prove whatever results someone is looking for.

Never ceases to amaze me how Chris and Duane can argue many of the same points over and over again. However, I think that's the most numbers I've seen on one page with the exception of my algebra homework. One point for Builder!

Find the statistics that "Ford outsells GM & Dodge combined" in trucks and you'll make a believer out of me.

The only thing the stats show me is that Ford outsells GM in heavy duty pickups.

If you want to look at the past 10 years in HD diesel pickups, you'd see that GM has made great strides in the HD diesel pickup market in units sold. At one time in the late 90's, GM accounted for only 5% of diesel heavy duty pickup sales. That has changed a great deal thanks to GM having a better truck than they used to.

Can you read Duane????

I quote myself. I said "The main reason the Fords are so easy to find is they just about outsell the GM and Dodge offerings combined."

Where did I say they outsold? Again, I said they just about outsell the GM and Dodge offerings combined. About being the key word.

Again we are talking HD pickups, like the F-250 the original poster asked about o from now on stop going to google and think and reread the question before you speak. You jumped my case for getting the front ends of my 3 trucks messed up, so now its your turn pal!

One point Doug!

They (Ford) "don't just about oustell" They (Ford) get easily outsold by GM & Dodge combined.

You gotta take off the Ford blue tinted oval sunglasses and get the facts right before you make statements trying to convince someone to buy something.

I think we owe it to our fellow members to be unbiased when we try to help another member make an important decison.

Now go back and study your Ford front axles so I don't have to teach you more about your Ford.

I won't even call you names if you get something wrong. :D
