Recently there was a thread about the most important tools to have on your tractor. Lots of good suggestions about the minimal gear required. I could'nt find that thread again, but I have another suggestion that was not previously mentioned. TP, yes toilet paper, don't leave home without it!

I keep an axe, a folding saw, a lopper, and a multi tool (pliers, knife, and beer opener are crucial) hanging on the ROPS uprights by bungees (another useful tool). I usually have a 20 ft chain with clevis hooks on whatever 3PT implement I have on the rig, or the backhoe. In the toolbox are various extra pins, keepers and cotter pins, a large punch and short handled claw hammer, all the end wrenches that fit common bolts and hydraulic fittings, a pair of dikes, small and large crescent wrenches, a pair of screwdrivers, and a small vise grip pliers. In the square tube on top of the loader bucket, that is the mount for a pin-on grapple, is a 5 ft heavy digging bar. In the cup holder there is usually an insulated coffee mug, or a pop, or a beer, depending on what I am up to.

I am a traveling tool store, but I have used all of these items many times while out in the field. Steve

On most of the tractors, there is a large torque wrench that can be used as a hammer as well, 10ft of chain, and extra pins. And all the operators have knives and cell phones on them.

honestly, I dont think what the best tools for one peson is the best tools for the next. I think the only way to know is to put some hours on your machine to the point where you get a little frustrated with not having the right tools next to you. As for me since I have a BX and using it on only 2 acres and dont travel with the BX often, I find I only need three things at this time. I have a wrench to adjust the 3 pt tension, needle nose pliers to pull small hair pins to remove the MMM , and rag for checking oil level. they all fit inside my little PVC toolbox mounted on fel arms. I have a fire extenguisher mounted on rops for a bit a safety.

Yep.. it's a different tool set for the guy that is 100' away from his shop at all times, vs the guy that has run 4 miles down the road and needs EMERGENCY 'GET HOME' tools with him.

I keep 2 pipe wrenches, cresent wrench, pliers, spare pins (which reminds me I need more shear bolts:) ) and about 10ft of chain. Everything else has been not to far away.

A large cresent wrench. Used to tighting the nut on the top link, and removing the FEL, and as a hammer if needed. I don't have far to get to get to my tool box.

That's funny.. I also carry an 'adjustable' hammer in my tractor box as well. strangely enough.. it has jaws on it that seem to fit bolt heads! ;)
