Makes sense, I do have the folding ROPS.

Thanks

I looked my paperwork up tonight, the model number is in fact L4400 DT- F, and I also have a folding ROPS so it looks like ChuckNH is on the right track with the F. and also the book says DT means dual traction (4 WD). Thank you, I learned something tonight.

kgroesch- Was it a major repair? ie splitting the tractor, or something fixed externally?

have_blue- Did you get yours fixed?

Did either of your dealers tell you what serial range or how many were affected? My dealer hasn't called me about this. I also haven't yet had the chance to use the PTO but will once I start Bushhogging later in the spring. Hate to bother them, but maybe I'll call my dealer to see if I'm affected or not.

Thanks for any info.

It was a repair that required splitting the tractor. They had told me it was a hydraulic tube inside that was leaking. Possibly sounded like a defective weld. The repair was back in May 2008 and I am taking it back tommorrow as the probelm reoccurred. The original repair was prior to the recall so I am hoping this is an issue they repaired it with another defective part. May be a totally different issue. Not sure. The dealler seems stumped what's going on and so is Kubota person they are tallking to. Will post what they find. My poor tractor, less than a year old and this is the third time to be split open.

My poor tractor, less than a year old and this is the third time to be split open.

My tractor only has 45 hours on it, and I'll be doggoned if I let them split it on a "maybe".

I know how recalls go, as I've issued a few myself, though not on moving vehicles. Sometimes recalls are due to defective components, and will eventually fail. Sometimes they're due to "possibly defective" processes. Someone mentioned welds. If it were a weld, only 20% of them may be defective because of an inconsistent robot or a human weldor in training. The other 80% of the welds may be fine. Even 50/50 is enough for me to think about it before getting my tractor split. If the problem is only slippage, what can it hurt? If I notice any PTO slippage, I'll take it in. I think I'll use the tractor and watch it closely. I want to avoid slpitting the tractor and the collateral damage it can cause. (I don't trust 90% of the mechanics these days).

If anyone wants to talk me out of this, please do it now, as mowing season is approaching! :)

My tractor was returned today. The recall required replacing a part in the PTO that was not machined properly. It was causing an o-ring to get damaged which causes the loss of hydralic presure to the PTO. Back in May before the recall, they just replaced the o-ring apparently so the problem reoccurred. Now they replaced the poorly machined part and so far it is working okay. Only time will tell if it is fixed for good or if it reoccurs.

Bob, I won't try to talk you out of it, because it's your tractor and your choice or decision.:) I understand reluctance to have a major disassembly of anything new, but if the mechanic/technician knows how to do it right, it'll be just as good as new and no one would ever be able to tell that it had been apart.

So my personal decision would be; if there's a recall, they get it promptly to check it out. To me that's a lot better than having a problem in the middle of doing a job.
