I think the photos are fine.. holding a camera in one had and a pair of needle nose pliers in the other and then taking a picture can be difficult.

Look enough about the pictures.............I took them with my phone.:mad:I have a great digital camera but I live in a dial up area at best. High speed internet has not been invented here yet!Downloading pictures takes about a year. I can take a picture with my phone and email it to my computer at work........cannot down load my camera to the server at work.

I will take all of your input seriously for I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination.........@75.00 hour for shop time.........the shop being 45mins away........parts plus markup......I will try it myself. Besides how else do you learn. I am picking up a new washer today from a non JD dealer near where I work and will compare. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

Well, I'm home now looking through the Technical Manual for the Horicon Hydraulic Attachments. It shows cross section drawings but it's hard to tell the orientation of the washers. It only refers to them as washers, not springs. It does say that the six valve sections are identical however, each spool MUST be installed in the valve section from which it was removed.

It also says: "IMPORTANT: Replace all washers, backup rings and O-rings."

If it would help, I can take the manual to work tomorrow and scan the couple of pages for you. Let me know.

Does it give a reason why??????

Nope, no reason given. I noticed just now in the system relief valve section it also says "Use valve seal kit to replace all seals, washers and o-rings".

There is no mention what-so-ever of an orientation to the washer or seal retainer (I think that's the part in your pliers picture). The cross section view shows them flat, though they probably would be flat in assembled position. There is a faint photo showing them disassembled but I cannot tell if they're flat or not.

OK.........the plot thickends............I just received a couple of washers today from the dealer down the road that lost their JD status during the reorganization. Guess what.........they are flat....thats right flat as a pancake! Take a look at the horrible picture below!

I quizzed a mechanic in the back of the shop and he just said.......I would feel comfortable replacing what you had with what they sent. HA! JD knows best!

Boy am I frustrated.........I guess I going to call my JD dealer north and have them pose the question on their service line and see what happens. I am going away anyway to hunt coyotes this weekend so the project is gonna sit anyway.............all thoughts would be appreciated.

Is there a rebuild kit for the whole valve?

Is it possible that the rebuild kit would have more detailed instructions and pictures?

You might be able to get the instructions free from a kit that someone has used.

Were all of the valves the same way, with cupped washers? Just curious, by the way the pictures are fine. They show what you were trying to point out.

Yes and no.........you will have to read the whole post......push come to shove I replaced them all with flat.....the cupping was at verying degees. JD stated through various repair opinions that washers were to be flat.
