I just hauled my Kubota BX2230 from Florida to upstate New York (near Cooperstown--quite the drive). I am now planning out the process of converting the tractor from its previous duties (clearing flat brush near a swamp) to its new role (snow removal on a long steep driveway plus sundry yard chores).

I've been reading some very useful discussions in TractorByNet about winter work with the BX2230 and tire selection, chains and so on. However, to get started I need to answer a very basic question, namely what kind of tires are these that are already on my tractor. They are labeled Trac Master. Are they bar, ag, turf, or something else?

And of course, my next question is, how are they for snow work?

(Hopefully none of my neighbors will read this and discover how little I know about tractors--your answers will be a face-saver.)

1* Bar AG and R1 are all the same tire these are them.
2*The best.

They look like AG's tires or r1's just like what lbrwon said. Florida mud and sand is same as snow here, perfect for the various types of snow we get. If you ever have problems with traction, first try adding wieght either with ballast box or loaded tires. If you stil have trouble then go with chains, then you are all set. If I were you, I would wait out one season to get the feel of your BX in the snow. I currently havew turfs with loaded tires and 95% of time its all I need. If I ever get stuck, I just crab my way out with the fel.;) welcome to NY. Coopertown is a fun town to be in for baseball, I was just there last summer.:D

Thanks very much y'all for both the responses. I guess I'm feeling pretty lucky. No need to change tires!

I probably won't be doing any snow work with the Kubota this winter. I need to winterize and service it first and, like you suggest, get a feel for the snow.

We have been clearing the snow with a 4x4 ATV which works a lot better than I expected. What the ATV can't do is move big piles of plowed snow or scrape down to the gravel when ice forms. I figure the Kubota FEL can help with the big piles. Not sure if I am going to go for a snow blower or not, but some people here speak highly of them.

Thanks again.
