I guess the trick is on me, lol! I ran me a jumper wire for the seat and it still will not crank unless the parking brake is locked. I am posting a pic of what I done. Someone please tell me what the deal is here. Could it be that JD wised up and changed something on the 09 model?? I made sure that I had a good tight connection on the jumper wire.

Even with the seat switch jumpered you will still have to press the brake pedal to start the tractor, unless you want to by pass the brake too.

Just make it a killer machine.

My response to that is...just cause some [not smart?]do not know how to use a machine without killing themselfs, don't make me wear a bullit proof vest when weedeating.
Talk about the dummying down of society.

Just cause one[not smart?] person, backs over their kid, don't mean,I should have to suffer[they woulda found another way to kill it anyways!]

Next they will be taking off the ROPS and cutting the seat belts with a knife.

Or unhooking the brakes.__since everything else is getting unhooked.

Some people i just don't understand.

Dirt is right about the brake switch keeping the engine from cranking. Although I've disabled my RIO switch on my L130 and modified my 4200's seat switch; I'd leave the brake switch functional.

Not all safety switches are bad, and not all are good.

Alright then. I will not mess with the brake switch. I just wanted to do away with the problem of barely raising up on the seat when climbing a hill and having the engine to shut off. I will go out and test it later on this morning. I think I should have it though. I'm not sure why I thought that doing away with the seat switch would have anything to do with having to lock the parking brake to start the mower.

i disabled the switch on my craftsman as soon as i got it home way back in 98, no problems with doing that. its a free country and if anybody wants to do that then go ahead. but they are on there to not so much protect us but to protect the companies who make them, lawsuits from folks that got hurt buy doing something stupid or incompitent drivers. my dad bought a john deere with the seat thing and the reverse thing on it, both are gone now, just remember one thing though, if you are going to be stupid, you've got to be tough.

Use to know almost 200 phone numbers before auto dialers, now probably six. Afraid to buy a GPS unit because in time might not remember how to get home. Technology is not always a positive influence and too many safety devices lead us to think the tractor has a brain and we don't need ours. :)

Not here to debate any of the "Do or Dont" but growing up on tractors with little to NO safety switches (They were BUILT that way) I will be the first to tell everyone here that all the safety switches in the world wont make any machine safer nor more deadly. The single most important safety device is between your ears. And suprisingly, its a universal one...It works on everything from tractors to Sawzall.

The only safety device I'd like to disable is the "Tractor Shutdown" on my 3520 cab if I leave the seat with the PTO engaged. On my F935 the ONLY safety device left intact is the PTO/Starter Interlock....IMO the way it should be.

One thing about the wire trick ,is if you sell it,or lend it ,its easy to hook back up.Mine is unhooked, chipper didnt want to stay running when i was off it.Seat belt trick didnt work, and i was gramming a shingle in it anyway[then forgettingit] Bouncing around doing loader work it would cut out too. Some switches are smart, like standard trannys not being able to start in gear.My brother reached in the door of my89 dakota and turned the key and drove it into a garage wall.It didnt have the switch from the factory like other makes.

I've got my PTO on a user selectable switch. For most tasks, I leave the safety engaged; but when spraying I disable the safety as I need the PTO running whether I'm on the seat or not.

Got pics? I'm intrigued by this...might be just what I'm looking for...

I have to say, I understand the reverse pto switch thing - it is a pain in the butt ... but the seat switch? That's plain dangerous. Just put on the brake and lock it down ... you should just lock down the brake when you get off it and shut it down ... then the seat switch won't bother you. it takes 2 seconds. Having said that, I've had a tractor - simplicity hydro (with a non working brake lock - creap away from me because I did just what you're asking, good thing I cought it because it would have taken some paint off my new f150 if I didn't.
( He don't know how to lock down the brake pedal with his foot.)

( 2 seconds would be to long and probably to much of an effort.)

( I doubt he has even looked over the manual, since 2 seconds is to long.)

I can't believe this thread.

It first started with the seat switch, then went to the PTO reverse switch, and talked about disabling the brake switch. And one person said
He disabled the seat switch, so the PTO would run whether on the seat or not. (so with that disabled, do you get off you tractor with a bush- hog running, if you need to. ???)

Do i have my safety switches working properly?----YES

Am i afraid of a piece of equipment since i have my switches in place?---NO

I am not afraid to run any piece of equipment, i understand the possible dangers of running equipment and what they can do to you, if you mess with a safety device.

I worked underground in the coal mines for years, getting on a elevator to go down over 200FT. and 8 miles to the working face of the coal, with methane gas levels so high you couldn't work half the time, until the air levels was right, then when the equipment started back up you still wondered about an explosion.

And if one happened, and we survived the explosion, it was 8 miles to
the elevator, one way in and one way out.

I use all safety devices because i am smart, then after you make that
decision to use them, you become an experience operator that will keep you from an accident.
Sometimes you can't stop an accident, and they will put an impact on
family's.

My son will be 13 this summer and he likes tractors, he wants his own JD mower to cut grass.
He gets on his labtop and goes to this site and just looks around, but
i had to stop him because of this thread, i teach him how to use a mower with safety switches and i don't want him to see how to bypass one from someone else.

But many young kids probably have already viewed this.

(AND THEY SHOULD NEVER MAKE THIS STUPID DECISION)

Im proud to say I've gotten off tractor with brush hog running,Now havn't got off lawnmower with deck running,I'll shoot for that next maybe.

Do they give out different colored belts for this kinda stuff like in judo and stuff? If so,need to know who to go apply to[the master of things you shouldn't do],bet I'm over a black belt in stupid things you shouldn't do,right now!
I'll tell you one that really got me way along to wards my advanced belt, twirling a double action 357 hog leg revolver,[like the cowboys did].

I turned off the switch on my 2520 2 days after i got it.
I got very sick of the motor shutting off while i'm trying to lean forward while doing loader work. after killing a not yet broke in diesel a few times I said to heck with this. killing that engine over and over trying to do load work can't be good for it.
I personally feel common sense is the best safety decive.

before this I used a John Deere 70 and a WD 45 for loader work with a bush hog on the back after using those even without the seat switch this 2520 feels super safe.
