Help with DX40

I just bought a Case DX40 with a backhoe attachment. The rear remote control valve operates the backhoe when I hold the lever in the rear position but when I let go it automatically goes back forward. How do I operate the backhoe without having to hold that lever back?
I asked a guy from a case dealer and he said when you want to use the backhoe just tie it so it stays in that position.
Is that what I am supposed to do? Sounds a little weird.

that sounds like shoddy work.....

mine has two remote outlets and operating handles (tc45 with hoe).....in addition to that, there is a hydraulic outlet under the belly of the tractor and an additional fitting that threads in to the side of one of my remote outlet add-ons......I would presume, being that I don't have to tie off my handle, that they are routed before the fluid gets to the remote handles....

to me, miy outlet fitting that come out the sides of my remote outlets (almost like 3 outlets) just looks like a typical hydrualic fitting that you pick up anywhere...

if someone doesn't come along with a better explanation, i'll charge the camera and snap you a pic.....

make sense?

I'm not near the tractor right now so I don't know about underneath but I know mine only has one remote lever. I don't know if that would be the reason?

Just guessing hear, but it sounds like the backhoe is hooked up to a rear remote meant to operate something else. So for the back hoe to work, the handle would have to be held open, then the controls of the backhoe used. Is that right? If so, a backhoe is normally plumped into the pump in such a manner that only the backhoe controls have to be used to operate it.

yeah that's exactly what I have to do to use the backhoe. So I guess it's worth getting someone out here to hook it up right or is this just the way it goes when you only have a single remote valve?

I don't know about a dx40 but when i was growing up on the farm we had a 3020 John Deere and if i remember right to get the remote lever to stay down there was two holes for the linkage to hook in and you changed holes. May be the same if yours has a linkage from the lever to the hydraulic block.

these look like very simple fittings that you can buy at tractor supply...i'd say they just pulled out a factory plug and put some joint tape and threaded the fittings in......relatively cheap and quick.....

on the rear, in the optional remotes......

under the "passenger side" of the tractor......in the distribution block....

What you need is a power beyond port. The backhoe hooks directly into it. It has no valves, and to avoid deadheading the pump when the backhoe is not connected, it has a short hose which you must connect from the outlet to the inlet to complete the circuit. You might check with your dealer to get a price on the power beyond, or considering that he has already misled you on it once, find another dealer. There are dealers who will ship you parts who can be found on this site or other web sites. Good luck, and let us know how it comes out.

mine, if i don't hook the hose back up (the one on the underside) my 3pt hydraulics won't work.....

am i getting the most flow out of my setup??? i can't hardly do two motions at once with my backhoe....
