Trailer Wiring - RV 7way Plug

I converted my trailer over from the 6way plug to the 7way RV style to match the truck. Lights and brakes work as they should. The black wire from the truck has power when the truck is running. I think its for the break-away brake battery, but would like confirmation. The trailer does not have the charger for the battery and I assume I'll need that and cannot hook the black wire directly to the battery. Please steer me in the right direction.

Im reading from my BIG TEX TRAILER book.It showspics of 4,7semi,6,7rv wiring hookups.It states locates wires by functiononly.Color coding is not standard among all manufacterers.
Ithink you would be exactly right on your blackwire being the correct one,if all your lights are off.

Thanks Willman. I still wonder what to do with the extra hot lead. Do I have to buy a new break-away kit with a charger to hook it to?

Alan, we need to hook up some Sunday! Maybe lunch somewhere in the middle, Freyburg maybe?
Maybe dinner with both of you when I get up that way again. I was complaining to your bride that they need more variety up there! Dinner at the Irving station ain't cutting it!

You do not need to hook it to any special charger, just hook it to the positive of the trailers battery. It is just like the wire going to your trucks battery but much smaller. As the alternator turns it sends a small charge to the battery keeping it topped off.

Shes a pretty darn good cook,and can bring me home proper parts to plumb a sink.

On your pics,i noticed you got the nerf bars on your truck,ipicked up a set on ebay for the TUNDRA,look just like them.That BLIZZARD,looks just like my PRONOVOSTS
If you aint using that extra wire,could you wire up a 12 volt outlet on the trailer with it?Might come in handy if you needed to blow up a tire or something.
