I'll be watching the sky for smoke and my nose to the wind sniffing you out Scotty. ;)

Enjoy and step in some mud for me. :)

Good Afternoon Thomas,
I hope you have your good nose on today, because Im in Ct not Vt ! ;)

Scotty, let us know what you think of the Jack Daniels chips. I haven't tried the chips, but did try their pellets, but only once. I was not favorable impressed and went back to using regular old hickory and mesquite chips.

.

Good Afternoon Bird,
I absolutely will ! Even if they dont stack up well to my hickory chips, I doubt that will put too much of a damper on the day! :)

OK here is the marinate recipe for today !

Tennessee Whiskey Marinade
1/4 C Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey
1/4 C Soy sauce
1/4 C Jack Daniels mustard
1/4 C minced green oinions & tops
1/4C firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tsp salt
Dash of Worcestershire sauce
Pepper to taste

And ..... to give you a bit more flavor for the day... a pic of the temp from my truck travel pack.... todays music Craig Morgan and Alan Jackson... and last but not least some unused soldiers lined up in the snow bank ! :)

OK gotta go there is a beer out there with my name on it ! :D Its OK its after 12 !

Good Mornin Thomas,
Yeah it was T shirt weather here for a little while and then the wind came up ! :( I had a hard time keeping the temp up on my little Brinkman, had to put some rolled up paper towels around the top to hold in my heat ! :(

I need a Big Green Egg, I only need 1500 members to send me a dollar, and this idea could work !

Anyaway the ribs and the chicken came out great, even my wifes cat loved it ! ;)

I would highly reccomend this marinate ! :)

I can almost taste it from the pictures, Scotty. It sure looks DEEEE-licious!

I can't complain though. I spent most of the afternoon cooking turnip greens and rutabagas. With my heated up ribs, I had a big bowl of greens with hot sauce and rutabagas on the side. I had to do something to keep the calorie count down for the meal.

My ribs were so tender that when I went to slice them, the bones just fell out and I had a solid slab of smoked meat. It was yummy.:)

Yep, Scotty, those ribs looked great, and reminded me that I've got two racks in the freezer; maybe next weekend if it isn't too windy.

Good Afternoon Jim,
I have to agree with you on the ribs, they are some of my favorite food also ! :) Mine werent quite that tender but close, just pick them up and get right to business ! ;)

Looking at those luscious ribs is torture to those of us who are gastronomically challenged. :(

Hello Dudley,
Well thats why I added chicken to the menu, just in case you showed up ! ;)

Looks very good Scotty! Oh and mud season kicked off this weekend......got to love it.

Hi Wayne,
Yep, I think this mud season will be a memorable one with all the frost commin out ! And then thow in a couple of good drenching rain storms ! :)

Good Afternoon Bird,
I figured I would generate some interest in smokin by bringing this thread up again ! ;)

BTW I cant really say that I noticed a big difference using those JD chips in comparison to the hickory that I usually use ! But I really liked the marinate, and would use that again in a heartbeat ! :)

Scotty, that marinade does sound good, but there's one small problem. I haven't had any Jack Daniel's whiskey on hand in 20 years.:D Before I retired, our home had a wet bar and I kept it pretty well stocked with a little of everything, including black label Jack Daniel's, but nobody I knew drank that stuff, so I think that same bottle sat there for 11 years.:D And I never even heard of Jack Daniel's mustard.

I do have a bottle of Crown Royal on hand, and regular mustard. Will they substitute OK or not?

Good Evenin Bird,
Yeah that would be fine !

Kathleen and I never drank much Jack Daniels either. Then we took a trip to Nashville back in December and stayed at the Opry Land Hotel, where one of the waitresses talked us into a Jack Daniels sour ! :D Ummm good, we now stock a bottle in our pantry ! ;)

Good Evening Scott,

Bringing up a old thread just makes everyone hungry and wishing they were in your neck of the woods.:D

Well it was 78 deg. yesterday and 75 today and we talked about cooking out, but didn't, we have been getting ready for the big garden season, we did get our peas in the ground yesterday.

Funny thing though, i took some tractor pictures today and loaded them on my laptop and didn't know my wife had something already on the card, so i just left them on there.

And just turned this thing on 10 minutes ago and looking through the index, i seen this "Smokin....Oh Yeah" going on, well i don't have nothing smokin to show, but the other day it was smelling good.

So this is what Patricia was making the other day.

Good evening Scott,

You talking about chicken, well tomorrow just might be the day:D

Last summer i put 25 eggs in the incubator and only expected to get about 15 chicks, well all of them hatched.:D:D
We already had 22 laying hens and 3 roosters, so add 25 on top and that is too many:D so here is the plan:D

We have never done this, but we are going to thin some out:D

You brought up chicken and I can't quit laughing because when we do this, it will be a first time for us and probably a mess.:D

But it will taste good when its all over.

*I will post a picture WHEN we do this, but I'll keep the mess out*

(Keep your grill hot and keep it "Smokin......Oh Yeah!!!):D

If you've never slaughtered and dressed out your own chickens before, I'd love to be there and see that.:D

Well Bird,

It WILL be a mess:D

Now we do process our own deer, squirrel and fish.__but not a chicken:D

*Could make a video and post it in Countrybynet*

I've done a deer, lots of squirrels and rabbits and even helped my dad dress out calves and hogs, but nothing stinks like a chicken.:D When I was a kid it wasn't unusual for the family to have to kill 25 to 50 in a day, but I doubt that I'll ever do it again.

Good Evenin Bill and Bird,
Well I have never dressed out any chickens either, but I can tell you I remember my Great Grandmother goin in to the hen house, grabbin a bird and makin quick work of its neck out on the choppin block out behind her house ! Im almost 58 and Im guessin that I was three our four and I can remember it as clear as day !

Darn that chicken was good too but no comparison to my smoked chicken !:D

Scotty, when you have free range chickens, sometimes just catching one can be quite a chore. When I was a kid I used to wish I had a dog like my grandparents' old English sheepdog named Shep because my grandmother would go out in the yard and point at the chicken she wanted and say, "Git'im, Shep" and that dog would catch that chicken and hold it down with his mouth and paws without hurting it until she'd go take it from him. Of course that was when you only wanted one or two for dinner today. When we had a bunch to do, we'd close the gate in front of the hen house at night, so we'd have them all penned up the next morning.
