New Guy, HELP: Kubota or Mahindra?

Hmm, I don't know about currency. I just thought the yen was worth more than the dollar per the news. So Kubota's revenues were about 11.2 billion. Wikipedia says Kubota Corp was founded in 1890 and Mahindra in 1945.
Well there you go,we learn something new everyday.I would have tought since mahindra was building parts for the willys jeep in 1943-1945 that they were older then Kubota.coobie

I like some of the Kubotas. However, I'm glad I didn't buy one. The local dealer just closed up shop after being in business for several decades. Now the Mahindra dealer is swamped with orange tractors needing repairs.

Did he close up after several decades to retire, or was it because he couldn't sell any tractors after several decades in the business? Did the economy bite him in the butt?

Poor guy, he must have thousands of all sorts of orange tractors just dropping like flies in his area and he's their only savior.

It probably seems like thousands when you have a bunch of tractors crowding your little facility. The mechanics at the Mahindra dealership have earned a great reputation for service, and the Kubota owners realized that. The Kubota dealership had a few problems with service, and sales. Otherwise, they would not have folded. This has been a real blow to orange tractor owners needing warranty work.

Naumes Equipment of Medford to close
But family will continue its Oregon Motorsports shop

Naumes Equipment, a Medford company that has provided agricultural equipment in Southern Oregon since 1946, is closing.

Owner Sam Naumes said a dwindling amount of agriculture in the Rogue Valley and tough economic times nationwide led him to end the business his father founded 62 years ago, when the orchard business was booming.

"We're proud of what we've done," he said. "We've had great years with the orchard industry and we're not happy that we have to exit."

As many here know, I've spoken highly of Mahindra several times. My only issue with them is that they like to dump 2wd tractors on dealers. Loaders on 2wd tractors aren't half as useful as loaders on FWA or 4wd tractors. A friend had a Mahindra dealership but Mahindra pulled his franchise. The part I'm just not buying, and is the point of humor, is the implication that orange colored tractors are all breaking and "swamping" what is most likely a small dealer, needing repairs. I'm not aware of any orange colored tractor that isn't far above average in durability and reliability. I also know that Kubota and Kioti may have issues sending any warranty parts to a Mahindra dealer. I'm glad you thank god for your Mahindra, but the offhand slap at any orange tractor is simply a point of humor.

be very careful here, regarding hydraulics, pump capacity, etc. Also be careful does Mahendra have cylinder liners or "cast in" cylinders. Run from cast in cylinders. Also look closely at lift capacity on pto and loader. Its complex, this is why I have been debating models for last 6 months........

Can't speak for the Mitsu- built Mahindras, but my Mahindra 3525 has wet replaceable cylinder liners, as I believe all of the Mahindra-built Mahindra's do. A rebuildable engine... not a throw-away.

I have to take a bit of issue with Dargo's comment that "FEL's on 2WD tractors are only half as useful as those on 4WD tractors." That seems to be the prevailing wisdom here in this great think tank known as TBN, but out in the real world, I can tell you that it isn't so. Maybe so if you like doing loader work in axle deep mud... in the conditions where most sensible people would just wait for the ground to dry so that you aren't making as big of a mess as you're fixing. Do some loader work with a properly ballasted 2WD tractor... you will be surprised at what you can do. Is a 4WD tractor more capable than a 2WD? Without a doubt... but Dargo, your statement is just off base... not really representative of reality IMO. I would say that 4WD is more a luxury than a requirement.

Not thousands, or even hundreds. But when you have a small facility with a good reputation, and all of a sudden there is no longer a Kubota dealer within a reasonable distance; and they are bringing their tractors to a Mahindra/Landini/McCormick, dealer with limited space, and a few mechanics - you are swamped with repair work.

I wasn't trying to badmouth Kubota. You just read something between the lines that wasn't there.
