New Guy, HELP: Kubota or Mahindra?

Which one do you like? That is really the important question. If I was gonna tell you which one I would buy then I would say the Kubota. I don't even care which models you are talking about. I would buy a Kubota over a Mahindra. That doesn't mean that Mahindras are bad. I actually think they are great tractors. But Kubota has a great rep, dealer network, and resale value. The Mahindra is cheaper now but in the long run (ecspecially if you trade, sale) that might not be the case.

Of coarse the Mahindra guys are gonna recommend the Mahindra and say that Kubota was the new kid on the block at one time too. And yeah that is true but that doesn't mean Mahindra will have Kubota's success.

And of coarse there will be some die hard Kioti fans that will insist you look at/buy a Kioti even though your thread has nothing to do with them.

Good luck
Maybe you should try out a Kioti product sometime. But I guess us Kioti folks are brain washed.LOL.coobie

For those who are interested, it's easy to do a little research on the two companies if you trust Wikipedia that is. I think you find that Kubota has been around far long than Mahindra. While Mahindra is a large conglomerate that has there hands in a lot of things, the entire company's revenue is just a drop in the bucket compared to Kubota, let alone just comparing Mahindras automotive and tractor division to Kubota. According to Wikipedia, Kubota revenue as of 2008 was 1.1 trillion in Yen. Mahindra Group was 67.5 billion is US dollars. Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, which is the automotive and tractor division had 6.7 billion in revenue in 2008. Again these numbers ae from Wiki, so they may be entirely untrue. None of this sheds any light on who makes a better machine either.

.
One last statement from me...pound for pound hp to hp there is not ANY Kubota out there that will out lift or out power a Mahindra!!
And that's all I have to say about that.

There is not not ANY Mahindra out there that has better engineering, reliablity, durability, build quality, dealer network, or resale value than a Kubota!! And that's all I have to say about that.

I bought a Kubota L2800 and absolutely love it! When shopping around, I looked at forum for different tractor brands and reviewed the problems others were having... when I got to the Kubotas, there was one re-occuring problem that everyone complained about.... the lack of a tool box!
I fifured that if that was the only problem, then a Kubota was for me... I mentioned this to the dealer and he happily mounted a toolbox, no charge...

First, I think this thread has gone about as far as it can....its the old "my dog's better than your dog!" theme....Second, I own a Mahindra 6000...obviously a heck of a lot more tractor than you need...Third, if all you're gonna do is cut grass, get the Kubota, by model they are lighter and you don't need the traction (read weight) and lift capability that the Mahindra has, and Kubota has a good reputation. As far as engineering is concerned, gears, lubrication, and diesel engines are pretty much same once you crack them open....for those that haven't done this over your lifetime, you'll have to take me at face value on this....
Again, I do "heavy" stuff with tractors (I've got 4 at last count), so I leave the cutting to the smaller, lighter duty gassers. Go with the Kubota and don't look back....if you subsequently get more land/need bigger, sell the Kubota and start looking again. Good luck. BobG in VA

Divide the Yen by 98 and that should give you the approx dollar amount.

Yes there will be dealers going out of business but I would say just as many big guys will go out as little guys.

I gotta call you on that one. A good friend of mine was a Mahindra dealer. Mahindra pulled his franchise basically in part of their move to weed out the small dealers who don't have a fully equipped shop and don't stock a pretty good amount of product. He checked with several other similar line companies and they are looking to do pretty well the same thing. I'd have to say, percentage wise, the only way to make the comparison, there are far more small dealers going out than larger dealers. Which is unfortunate for those of us who have had good relationships with some of the great smaller operations. I'd assume that they are trying to get away from having the reputation of being sold at roadside yard barns that cannot service what they sell and are here today and gone tomorrow. Even though I don't like it, I do see the manufacturer's perspective on that aspect. As we know, all too often, perception is reality.

I was under the impression that Mahindra and Mahindra pretty well built most of the overseas Willys under contract from the U.S. government.

Hmm, I don't know about currency. I just thought the yen was worth more than the dollar per the news. So Kubota's revenues were about 11.2 billion. Wikipedia says Kubota Corp was founded in 1890 and Mahindra in 1945.
