Ticking in the seat/hitch area

Hi all,
I'm starting to notice a light ticking noise coming from the back of the tractor. It's most noticeable when I have my head right by the back of the seat, above the hitch arms. The sound isn't very loud, but I don't think it's been there before. My oil levels are good, and I change the oil & filters regularly.

Any ideas on what it could be?

It's probably just your pto overrun clutch ticking.

Is that something I need to have looked at?

Could you give us more info. Does it do it all the time,Only when the pto. is engaged.Etc.

ONE: Do you have an overrun clutch on the end of your pto shaft?
If not, that is not the problem.
TWO: If you do, then it is very easy to remove the overrun clutch and see if the ticking stops.

Let us know if you have one and ,if so, if you removed it and the ticking stopped.

Like the guys are saying, try different combinations in the controls while static to determine the cause of the sound. For example, in each range gear with the trans in neutral. Could also be a range, gear or PTO gear selector being in neutral, but not completely out of the way. A 'ticking' sound from the PTO ORC (OverRun Clutch) is normal, but only happens when the PTO driveshaft is turning and the PTO shaft is not driving, like when you're brushhogging, and you stop, in neutral with the pto in neutral, or clutch 'in'. I hope you're not having your head near the PTO or shaft if it's spinning - not to assume you have long hair. PTO accidents can be remarkable in their brutality.

I think it is good that you're paying attention to new sounds. Many times I've tended to a 'new sound', it paid dividends with catching a problem before it got critical.
