Chipper Chipper

I noticed after about 15 hours of use my chipper seems to vibrate the brush and sticks going into the hopper - more than usual . I checked and adjusted the the stationary blade. There are no nicks in the four blades and they appear sharp to the touch. It is well greased. Any suggestions.

It has about 20 hours of use. It grinds through the wood no problem and the chips a are small.

It's a wallenstein 42 running off of PTO.

I have the same chipper,I reversed the blades at appox 20 hours,even though they felt sharp,made a world of difference. I bought a second set of blades,we try to reverse blades after appox 20 hours and after 40 hours send out to be sharpened,if we are chipping ash or dry limbs,we may have to reverse after an 8 hour day. Now I chipped some fir that was a bit dirty

I have the Wallenstein 62 and have never had any odd vibration issues. Haven't even changed or sharpened the blades after about 40 hours on it. Of course, each person will be chipping different types of wood.
Anyway, I would check to be sure your PTO shaft is secure and the U-joints are well greased.

If everything else checks out, my vote would be dull blades. I dont have a PTO chipper, but my Troybuilt is hard feeding and vibrates bad when the blades are getting dull.

Thanks for the info. I will take the blades off and sharpen them. I think I should order a second set as well.

Lloyd, you can just reverse them,they have cutting edge on both sides,sit down when you get the price of new blades

I just purchased a BX42 from Iowa Farm Equipment and bought an extra set of blades for $150.

What is that your thought old trout? Who sharpens them?

I normally get them sharpened at the local saw mill,they do their own planer blades,anyone that sharpens planer blades should be able to help you. I know that Bowaters does a good job

. If you know someone there.

At the cost you don't want to go at them with a file

, I paid..... now sit down.......350.00 for replacement blades

At the farm show a couple of weeks ago the Wallenstein rep told me the blades run about $500! he said if you buy a chipper before end of March you get a free set of blades. I thought "good deal" if they're that much. I thought that was pricey.
