Well at that price I may have to rethink this move to purchase an extra set.

Will look around for someone to sharpen them for me.

thanks

$500 !? That's a spicey meatball.
Lisa at Iowa Farm Equipment told me the were $300 and since I bought a chipper they would sell me a set for $150. I guess it all evens out as I got the BX42 for $2400 which I believe is a good price.

What about having some made at a local machine shop, using your originals as a pattern?

I may have to go this route as most parts for my Troybuilt are no longer available after they were bought out by MTD.

I was quoting in canadian $$. The wallenstein chippers and the blades are made here in Canada so I guess the price fluctuates with the dollar and the price of steel. The latest price I got on the BX62 is $3800 Can with a free set of blades.

Good news...almost.

Just got a quote back from my dealer.

$224.95 taxes and shipping included - $52 each before shipping and taxes.

Now that changes the water on the beans!!! Time to rethink - again.

Hmmmm, Just looked at my receipt for the blades 331.00 plus tax for a total of 374.03,bought last June; :(.

If you don't mind Lloyd did you buy chipper and get price for blades from the same dealer you bought tractor from?

If I were you I would order the blades even if you don't want them, for that price I will gladly take them off your hands :).

If you don't mind let me know what you decide to do, I will wait untill you have blades and than I may have to have a heart to heart talk,I am hoping that it was a honest mistake or the manufactor dropped the price 150 bucks.

I used to have a small chipper (4" or so capacity), and took the blades to a local chainsaw shop to have them sharpened. They charged something like $7 (US dollar) per blade to sharpen them. When I needed new blades, I went to my friendly local machine shop where they copied one of my original knives out of hardened tool steel for $13 per blade. Granted, this was four years ago......... but three beans for a set of knives is too much $$ in my opinion.:(

Rich, you should be getting a free set of blades with that chipper, March 31st the Wallenstein "Winter FREEze" promotion ends. I took delivery of my BX42 last Saturday and got my free blades. Ask the dealer about the promotion and where your blades are. Would hate to see you get cheated out of parts you should be getting for free. Hope this helps you out.

Ever any problems chipping softwoods like pine or spruce? I was wondering if the resin would gum up the chipper? I know whenever I cut softwood it makes a mess of my chain saw...
