Looking for a pole barn to be built in Ohio. Need a very good price, and willing to do as much of the work myself as possible. Any suggestions for good companies/money saving tips?
Also, anyone heard of Nationwide barns? I'm checking them out, but a bit leery.

Thanks!

I don't know if you have a Menards or not, but they have the kits to build your own. They seem a little light on the lumber for my taste, but would not be hard to add additonal lumber or modify the design to fit what I would want. In a few years I plan on doing what your talking about, but for now I have a few other projects to finish. Morton buildings makes one heck of a great building but they are not cheap. I know FS use to have building as well, and Cleary (not sure of spelling) has several building in my area. Best of luck and when you get started please post pics and keep us updated.

You might try small individual contractors in your area most or willing to do as
little or much as you like at lower cost than big name contractors. But you
must study up and know what you want.Framer

Why cant you do most of this yourself or at least act as the contractor. My 40 X 60 is going on 5 years now and I plan on another at least 30.

For me the most critical parts is the post placement. They MUST be of course plumb, in line, and make the building line square. I put a post every 8 feet at a depth of 4 feet. My ceiling height under the trusses is 11 feet for equipment and RV's.

There are MANY blueprint plans, especially from the Canadian govt that are totally available on the internet. Anyway, in my opinion, this is basic carpentry with minimal specialty tools that a guy with a bit of care can do. The beauty of a pole barn is that you can make one strong building for a decent price. DO PAY particular attention to all of the bracing that is necessary. Yes of course from the posts to the stringers, I used 6X6 braces on the walls into the doubled 2 X 12 stringers running on each side of the posts. Above on the trusses I ran a whole system of braces at a 45 degree angle and 90 to tie the trusses from one end of the structure to the other.....................

Good luck and God Bless...........Dennis

If you decide to go the route of having it built for you let me know. I can get you a phone number of a good guy.

Guess I should've elaborated a bit....I wouldn't mind having a complete kit dropped off and do it myself, or definitely at least as the contractor. I'm not opposed to supporting the local economy, and will consider bids for the building alone, but I'm not in a position pay a lot for labor. I have the tractor, loader, backhoe, and PHD so that's a start. I can read a set of prints, and have built structures before, so something I can do....just a time factor.

Dennis; If you don't mind me asking, what was the complete cost for your barn? Did you buy materials separately, or as a package? Were the trusses pre-made or stick-built? I'm thinking 40X60 or 40X80, I have lots of "stuff" to get under cover. What's the website for these plans?

Mark; I wouldn't mind talking to your contact. I'll be down there on the 8th to start my road in!

Thank you gentlemen and please keep the info coming!

I bought mine from these guys in PA. Almost everything you need was included, including detailed drawings. Don't know if they deliver as far as Ohio though. Check out their web pages and sample drawings. I ended up drawing my own design, so I could get my permit before I ordered the barn. I put overhead garage doors. They will custom size it for you.

Menards does have several stores in Ohio, here is a web site for there pole building kits.

Like I stated before I think you may want to add some lumber to "beef" up the structure but that is just my opinion.

I also have seen several WICK buildings in my area that seem to be nice.
