Backhoe One more backhoe question....

Thanks again. I'll have it checked out.

Also, yesterday I started greasing it and the third zerk I added grease to broke. The nipple just broke at the base without any pressure on it. No big deal, except I went to NAPA and O'Reily's and neither had one with the correct thread. Are these odd-ball zerks?

I'm not sure who makes the KB2485 but Kioti tractors themselves do have some odd ball sized zerks. Did you try metric? There is also some odd British standard that I believe Highbeam knows about.

Yep, they tried metric. I took the zerk with me that broke and neither NAPA nor O'Reily could match it. The NAPA guy said he thinks Kabota might have the same as Kioti so I'll check with them tomorrow before having to drive to the nearest kioti dealer.

If this is a new machine I'd let the dealer take care of any issues if at all possible, I wouldn't mess around with a new tractor of that kind of value, or any new tractor for that matter.

The hoe should be a lot stronger than you are indicating. A full bucket of lead should be no problem for a backhoe, particularly with an 18 inch bucket on your size machine.

I'd call dealer, have them walk you through a few steps on the phone and if there is in fact an issue, they pick up, sort out and return.

Good luck,
Joel

RE: "Are these odd-ball zerks?"

Doesn't that sounds like a great insult? Like, "That guy who wears the spandex to work - what an odd-ball zerk!"

As for your problem, I had a similar sounding issue with the remaining hydraulics when one of the hydraulic lines to my backhoe was loose at the quick connect. It wasn't immediately noticeable, but it affected everything else.

Check all connections, perhaps to your front end loader, etc. If you notice anything loose, make sure you shut down the engine before pushing or twisting anything.

Make sure you post a reply as to what fixes this -

Cheers,

Jon

Great point, be very careful around hydraulics with the motor running (pump pumping), high pressure oil can mess you up.

My KB2465 backhoe must have been built in the good old USA because it's just chucked full of 1/8 pipe threaded zerks.

rimshot
(no offense to any #10 mm zerks equippped hoes)

I remember past posts saying Rhino was the supplier for the bh in earlier years. Made in USA company.

As far as lifting power, I use a 24" bucket on my KB2375/CK30 for when I clean out my pond. I've had it heaped over with heavy wet clay and had no problem lifting the weight. Just wish I had a bit more reach. Something doesn't sound right by Steve's description.
As stated, not good practice, but I had the tractor sunk in wet clay dirt once and used the bh to lift and swing me out of the trenches. The R4 tires couldn't bite in at all. Actually had to lift the front a little with the fl bucket working like a skid and then pulled myself backwards with the bh. I just did things gently, trying to put the least load on everything. I've learned not to get stuck like this again.
