Just to add to this.

Some of the best quality is coming out of the GM plant in Oshawa, and that is for all of North America.

If GM has a long way to go with suspension, then why did FORD drop that inbred wanna be front end(TTB) in favour of a full IFS setup, which GM has ran since 1988??

Any ford guy should know that the Ford expedition has full IFS on the front and rear axles. Kind of like a Humvee, right? ;)

In the meanwhile I am pricing out some 2 hole slide in dog boxes for the truck.

You could build one that sits up on the bed rails - then you've got the whole bed for "stuff". :D Actually, the aluminum ones I've looked at are nice, but since I need a bigger box, it needs to be custom built and powdercoated to deal with the road salt & mag chloride, so the price starts to skyrocket.

My home-made 2 compartment box can actually fit 4 Siberian Huskies. Too small now that I have 6 dogs, so I'll be making a new one this summer.

You made that? Quite nicely done. I do have to wonder how you lift 4 Siberian's into that thing. Seems like a back breaker to me.

Thanks.

My biggest Siberian is only 55 lbs. Did get an Alaskan Husky recently that is 70 lbs, but still not too bad to lift him into the box.

I think I may build a ramp for the new box for next season. In and out of the box twice for training runs isn't bad. But during races, they're in and out a good half dozen times or more, so I think a ramp would be nice - lots of the older mushers are going with ramps. I'm only 1/3 of the way gray haired, so I can still hoist them pretty easily, but I can see it getting to be too much in the coming years. :D

bandit, that is a heck of a nice setup you've got there. My fabrication skills are no where near yours!

I found a guy who is in the town my in-laws live in who makes some really nice boxes out of stainless steel. I think it is going to come out pretty expensive but I'm going to get some pricing from him tomorrow.

Gentlemen:

Something interesting of note on GM vs. Ford is that I don't think that they are competing with each other as much as they are collectively competing with Toyota and Honda.

Many buyers (like me) tend not to have the same kind of brand loyalty that manufactures used to count on. I'll switch brands without hesitation if I find the product, quality, service to my expectations.

To an extent, I got the feeling that Ford gets this. I'm not yet sure if GM does. At least in the time I spent purchasing, the Ford dealer took the competition for the F150 they wanted to sell me against the Toyota Tundra more seriously than the GM dealer did. Of course this is a single buying experience but even when you go to Ford Canada's website, they talk about their quality being equal to Honda and Toyota - not GM.

The domestics better realize that they are not competing with each other as much as they are with the imports, if they want to survive in the long term.

And I'll take a chevy with 403HP and more torque and a longer warranty than a Ford with a man step.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.....

All 3 brands are good choices.

Fords need mansteps since they sit twice as tall . But living the lowlife in a Chebby is sweet if you like people always asking , "Is that a 2 wheel drive ? "

Just having some fun with ya Duke ...:D

Where I work in Canada , you never see any Imports at all . There are a few GMs but mostly Fords 9-1 over Dodges . Fords have a better cost structure for Business owners . We are buying 4x4 Heavy service suspension F350 Xl Reg cab diesels for $27k . Were the best on a comparable GM is $33k and Dodges are 31k . We have all Fords right now again . Payload is very important to us too and Ford beats GM & Dodge hands down .

Here is a pick how we use them in the summer , its so much easier in the winter when everything is frozen .... Buy American fellas ....
