I don't know what's going on in my county and state, but I have been summoned for jury duty 5 times in the past 3 years. That is for different courts. On one, I had to drive almost half way across the state for Federal court. And you would not believe the questionnaire I had to answer for that one. Like what bumper stickers do I have on my car, a bunch of really personal questions. 4 of the same people in the room got picked for 3 different trials, each lasting an expected 4 days. That just does not seem right or fair.

I now DO mind going in to jury duty. From my experiences, it looks like there is a pool of the same people called over and over that are being selected to serve. I think that if you show up to serve, your name goes in the hat that makes sure you will be called on again. Are there that many felons in my state or is something fishy going on? Any of you had that unlucky "luck"?

Dave, I really think it's just the luck of the draw. Some never get called, some rarely, and some more frequently.

QUOTE

'Let me tell you what plaintiff's attorneys want in a juror. They love people who are on disability, but not necissarily disabled, because people who feel entitled are more like to give big awards. They love people who are unemployed who take from the system rather than contribute to it for the same reasons. The love people who are ignorant and unintelligent because they can convince them to make decisions based on emotional appeals because they can't or won't understand the facts."

Are you serious??? you dont find this offensive???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Give us a break

My daughter was called up for jury duty.
It was a mass trial for some 50 hells angles in Montreal. Was in all local papers and they even built a new court house to handle the process.
The trial (s) were expected to last at least 2 months.
Being at the prime of her career she was reluctant to be away from her new position for that long but still would do her duty.

When asked of any reason she felt that she should be excused, she told the judge that her youngest was seriously asmatic and she would need to have her cell phone on at all times in order to respond.

The judge said 'excused' next!

We think her name was drawn from the CPA listings.

I'm sure most of you have fiqured out, after reading these posts, that the common denominator is the attorneys and the way they conduct themselves in a court of law. It seems to me bending the law, minipulating potential jurists, causing delaying tactics etc. is the real reason our justice system is failing. It's no wonder many have become reluctant to serve on juries. It's no wonder cops are frustrated. It's become a giant game of I'll do anything to win rather than focusing on whats right and responsible.
I worked with law enforcement for many years as a police volunteer (not a sworn officer) and can remember working dilligently with the officers to build airtight cases against the bad guys just so the DA's office wouldn't refuse to prosecute due to a technicality of some sort. I've seen bad guys walk, even after overwhelming evidence and documentation was presented, just because the attorneys involved were able to manipulate the system. I don't see much change coming either, until people say "Enough is enough".

I will not comment on this trollish remark, except to say that a moderator should shut down this thread. This is now going in an unallowed direction for TBN, i.e., politics.

IMO, not politics Mr. Chips but just people frustrated at what they see going on in our courts on a regular basis. No put down of one political position over another.

Recall a few years back the state AG while making a public speaking appearance said, justice is the name of our judicial system and not necessarily the outcome.

That was a sad day IMO if the state's top law enforcement officer actually believed and accepted that premise.
