I noticed that the BH wobbles side to side when going over bumps. I also noticed that there is a hole in the base where perhaps a pin could be placed to secure it. I am assuming that is what the holes are for. Does any one do that to better secure it for transport? Mine did not come with any pin or such...

Yep, I use a pin on my #7 backhoe just for that purpose. Also one for the boom to keep it up. Your 110 may have something more sophisticated for the boom.

Measure the hole diameters and run to the local farm store. Probably a standard hitch pin size will work.

Yup, that's where the pin goes.. Should have come with a pin from the dealer. On the right hand side of the backhoe; at the floor level just above the metal step - there's a little round tube. That's the holder for the pin. It's easy to not even notice that it's there.

If the pin's not there - I'd ask the dealer for one - and use a large bolt in the meantime.

Thanks AK!,

I just went out to see, and there it is! I saw it there before, but it never clicked in my brain as to what it was or was for.

I used the pin for about the first month, then put it in the holder and there it sits.

When I am doing any side hill travel, I swing the BH boom to the uphill side, which adds to stability. Extending it and swinging it to the uphill side adds even more. I can not reach the pin while I am facing forward, so having the pin out is a great convenience.

Just yesterday, I was on a little tiny sidehill, when all of a sudden my seat-of-the-pants tilt meter went crazy and the R&B tilt meter settled on 20+ degrees. Being able to just reach back and swing the boom to the uphill side without doing anything else, like pulling a pin, was very comfortable.

Dave, I am with you on that for sure. I saw the pin holes and storage socket but never had the pin itself. I can't see installing and removing the pin in the course of normal operation, I would rather have to rebuild the swing cylinders more frequently than go thru that aggravation.

Is that "tongue-in-cheek" humor...??

"Rebuild the swing cylinders more frequently"...? No thanks - I'll take the "aggravation" of using the pin.

If I were using my 110 in hilly locations (like Dave) I'd probably leave the pin out quite abit of the time.

But, for my daily purposes; the need to swing the boom around to provide counterbalance is most often, not necessary. However, riding over rough, uneven, and bouncy terrain - causing the boom to jerk from side to side and beat the bejesus outta the swing cylinders doesn't seem like a sensible way to operate my 110; so I leave the pin in place.

For me most backhoe work is ditching, and I always keep my ground speed to a minimum when on rough ground. For the most part I keep my hoe out of rough terrain thats when I call an excavating contractor and let him wear out his equipment.;)
