Steve, have you posted any pictures of your new tractor, yet? I might have missed it..

If I had more confidence that a cab, 4520 would stand up to a baler over a few thousand hours - that would be my next tractor.

But, I know that a 5000 series could handle to job without a problem. So, I'll likely go with what I know..

Haven't posted pictures yet but will set up to do this soon.

If I was operating on larger acreage predominately as I suspect you are a 5000 series with reverser would be a better choice. The 4000 series is about as big as I can fit in the yards for landscape work. Today I will be riding the older 820 all day with a 5 1/2 ft tiller for a friend who bought it from me. He has a Deere 3100 LS (about 85 hp) with a 10 ft disc and we are trying to get his place organized to reseed. After planting is over I am going to fix up his older Deere and take some pics.

Which 5000 are you considering?

Small square baler?

Haven't made my mind up, yet. Depends upon several factors - baler, accumulater system is a big part of the decision.

Yup, small bales. Mostly Timothy with a little Blue Grass thrown in.

What kind of terrain will you be running it? If it is flat, I bet a 4520/4720 would do fine.

Baler only or are you going to pull a trailer also?

Hum - you might be right with the 5xxx

Mostly flat ground. Easy stuff. Just the baler with accumulator. Looking at the Kuhn system. No added Hp needed. Don't like the twist that is placed on the bales as they move thru into the rows, though.

Seems like it might break twines or mess up the shape of the bales and make your "pods" harder to pick up and stack. No experience with it and haven't heard of other people's experiences, either. Just my look at it.

Accumulator discussion is a religious one. I have pretty much decided to pass on small squares - too much work and a pain to store. I will stick with rounds.
