I just purchased a used Farm Pro 2425. It seems to run well except that it emits blue vapor /oil from the hose that runs from the respirator to the rear of the tractor. The oil level is between the two marks on the dipstick. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thank you
Steve

That is a metal can on the side of the engine that has a rubber hose coming from the bottom of it to the rear of the tractor. Inside it after removing a wing nut there is a steel mesh filter element and below that two discs of a material like scotch bright. I found the name "respirator " on a parts web site.

yes. it goes to atmosphere. It smokes heavily and drips oil.

Yeah I know what your talking about, its got steel mesh on inside like a brillo pad,[I think],but can't figure out the hose thing going to rear of your tractor? and you say the hose is leaking and blue smoke coming out of it? where is blue smoke able to leak from,if its a hose,or is it coming out from around the sliver thing it self??

The oil filler cap may have a little breather type hose coming out of it,check to make sure it has one,see if its plugged up,[it should go to intake manifold],think these two are connected in this.Crankcase ventilation or something...???

The canister on the crankcase vent is normal. The hose to the rear is new to me. I'm thinking a prior owner added it to divert attention from the excessive blow by. Being the tractor is used, you cant know how long it was run on the Chinese oil. over the years, I have heard of and in some cases sold engines for tractors with as little as 120 hours on them who had never had an oil change and the engine will not survive much over 100 hours on the chinese oil. So what I am beating around the bush about is you probably need some new piston rings.. but there is one possiblilty. there is supposed to be a tube running from the top of the valve cover to the intake manifold. if this is plugged or kinked, excess vapor will be expelled out teh crankase breather. Hope that is all it is.

If it is a crank case breather, could be your getting blow by and pressurizing the crank case. Might need a ring job?
How many hours on the tractor?

On edit, I see Chip and posted at the same time?

Hose comes from the bottom of the canister with the brillo in it and just goes to the rear of tractor where it vents to atmosphere. This canister bolts to the engine with a metal tube and gasket. It is dark here now but I will try to take a photo tomorrow and post it.
Thank you
