Farm Pro Leaks out respirator?

Havn't heard of the hose off the crankcase breather before... In a perfect world, the small breather hose on the oil fill cap up top that is connected to the intake manifold, keeps a slight vacume on the crankcase, and any builtup crankcase blowby gasses are sucked into the intake manifold and burnt in the engine. The only time you would normally see anything out of the lower crankcase breather is if you are working the engine really hard, and are creating more blowby gasses than the upper breather can vacume out of the case. You can sometimes see steam out of these lower breathers if you have picked up some moisture in the case which gets cooked off when the engine and oil gets good and hot.

IF you are seeing a lot of smoke out of hte breather and the upper line is intact, you are making more than the upper line can deal with, which as Chip suggests, probably indicates a worn ring problem. I have seen cracked rings and even cracked piston skirts cause this also.

Good Luck

OK, crankcase breather.
Never heard it referred to as a respirator before.
You might want to check your PCV valve, either at the intake manifold or at the valve cover.
In some diesel engines these are incorporated with a venturi in the exhaust manifold to evacuate crankcase oily mist gasses, which can become quite volatile. The "Brillo Pad" wire gauze is used as an oily mist separator, usually intended for the separated oil to flow back to the sump.
In any event, it's not a good idea anymore to exhaust crankcase gasses to the atmosphere, and lot only from an environmental standpoint, but it allows dust, dirt, and other contaminants to enter the crankcase (the wire gauze is not intended to be a filter), and consequently, the lube oil.

I just purchased a used Farm Pro 2425. It seems to run well except that it emits blue vapor /oil from the hose that runs from the respirator to the rear of the tractor.
I bought a used tractor with a Y485 engine (I think you probably have the 3 cylinder version). There's no PCV to check by the way, don't waste time looking for it. Anyway, that engine did the same thing - and it made a helluva mess down the side of the engine and behind the starter. I ran a temporary length of hose to remote the mess till I could get to it. Didn't take long before I got around to changing the head gasket and adjusting the valves. Tearing down for the head gasket meant that the (filthy) canister came off the engine. I took that opportunity to give it a good soaking in diesel fuel. After reassembly - with clean canister reinstalled - the smoking/dripping problem went away, and the temporary hose went into the trash
