Backhoe Filled tires with backhoe?

Backhoe operators move and re-position the tractor with the BH. Lifting the rear of the tractor with the hoe is more difficult with the additional weight of the loaded tires and restricts the "gymnastics" that can be accomplished.

I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I know my dealer recommended strongly against loading the tires and I could not understand why, but now it all comes clear.

The more time I have on the machine, the more comfortable I am with moving the rear end around with the hoe.

Yep.. that's a generally accepted practice with a TLB.

However, I doubt that the manufacturer would advise against either retaining wheel weights or maintaining filled tires when the backhoe is attached based upon the acknowledgement that user's would have a more difficult time repositioning the backhoe using the boom and dipperstick.

A local dealer... yah, maybe.

More likely the design team recognized that either the failure rate of the drivetrain components would be accelerated beyond acceptable limits or the structural integrity of the safety components (ROPS, brakes, etc.) would be exceeded - IMO.

That's why they put it in writing.

Mine are loaded on my bx.I also feel the heavier the tractor the better the hoe will dig,before it lifts you off the ground.

alot of speculation, and no comment from kubota. Here is my point of view of the summarization of what TBN'er are saying here.

It seems to me that unloaded tires with BH makes:
1. higher degree of safety of less chance of rops collapsing
2. better gymnastics of moving around with boom (less weight)
3. less stress on axles
4. less weight on lawn.
5. less stuff for tractor to move = longer life? (not sure if I believe this one)

But! theres always a but somewhere isn't there ?
loaded rears:
1. less chance of rollover due to lower center of gravity
2. better digging with BH (more down force gravity dig)
3. if hydraulic boom can't move tractor around means pressure relief is set too low (good sign for you to test your hydraulics.)
4. isn't axles designed to carry that much weight anyway?
5. better traction with and without BH.
6. even with unloaded tires, if it makes ruts in lawn, it too heavy anyway, adding loaded rears would probably make same deepness of the ruts in the lawn right ?

I dunno. As a TBN'er said - to each his own. I guess its based on your preference and needs. there is no right and wrong way here as tractor manuals don't explain clearly why liqiuid ballast is not recommended with BH's.

When using the backhow with loaded tires, the rear tires are in the air and the weight of the loaded tires is hanging from the axle.

My B7800 came with loaded tires from the dealer ($200); I drained them because I was sinking too deep in the soft soil in my yard.
If I need to use the front end loader without the backhoe attached, I'll buy a weight box.

That's what I ended up doing. No filled tires and a weight box for FEL-only work. Moved 15 yds of dirt and mulch over the weekend. On soft parts of the lawn I made some tracks. Next time I will go loader only for that type of work. Freakin' fun though. Would have taken me a month of weekends by hand to do what I got done in a couple of days. Good stuff.

Not to sound like the safety police but given that your new to this I'll caution you about moving dirt without the weight box or some other rear counter weight. You will be surprised how quickly the back end can come off the ground with out a counter weight. There are also those who say you are adding too much weight to the front axle when you don't use a counter weight to help transfer the FEL load to the rear.

Indeed. I didn't mean to imply I would do otherwise. I will only use the FEL with either the backhoe attached or my ballast box. Never with no counterweight.
