If you can't get a seal for the gear box, you can put #0 JD cornhead grease in for a quick fix.

I would just take the seal out and take it to napa. Seals are sized something like 255155. These numbers would mean its 255mm outer dia and 155 inner dia. If you can not find a number on the seal you can use a caliper or micrometer and figure it out yourself.

Chris is right, a seal is a seal. Just remove the old one and match it up. But I'm having a hard time seeing a "bush hog" there. Are you sure that's not an old finish mower?

Thanks, It maybe a finishing mower (how do I determine that?) I got this and my first tractor in a package deal a couple of weeks ago so i am still playing catch up on everything. If anyone has an idea of the brand or type it would help me in the future if i need to replace any parts and if they are available. I have been reading this forum alot and it has been a great help. Thanks again

Like others have said, If you have a NAPA/Carquest they will be able to match it up and should have it in stock.

Blades that are sharpened on opposing edges like a lawn mower are used on finishing mowers. Rotary cutter (bush hog) blades are edged on one end, and pivoted on the other. They are typically attached to a rotating disc in opposing pairs.

Any markings on the gearbox(s)? That looks VERY familiar, but I can't put a name to it. (I'm leaning towards INTERNATIONAL, but not quite certain [NOT International Harvestor]) Many medium duty 2-spindle bush hogs are relatively light in appearance.

What's that bad boy hooked up to? Looks like a 165 Massey.....!

There were no markings on the boxes I could find yet. I need to take a wire brush to it. It looks like it is a bush hog type mower. It has four short blades that swivel and attach to 2 discs.

Thanks FMJ, I will see if i can match it to any of that brand. It is a 175 Massey. It's not the pretties thing right now but the diesel engine is strong and she runs through her gears and the hydraulics with no problems. I do have quite a bit of time that i will need to put into her.

Go figure.... I have TWO parts for a 175 in my spares.....the two side covers (over battery) Looks like you have at least ONE.... 175's weren't as common as the 135/165's. There were even more 150's than 175's. One thing that sort of watered down 175 sales was the 180....Same tractor for the most part, just a flat deck instead of a utility type chassis. Good tractors though. Most of 'em around here had the "smoke screw" (fuel screw) turned out (on the injector pump) to give 'em closer to 70 hp.
