I have an air tank that is aprox. 23 inches in diameter and about 4 ft. long. This tank is of very heavy material but was taken out off service however the tank is still good for air. I have no need for another air tank but thought it might be good for a project. The only project i can think of is a lawn roller. But I don't need one. Before I throw this in the scrap pile is there anybody out there who could give me an idea what to do with this??

If I had it I would cut off one end and drill a few holes in the bottom. Fasten some chains to the end with out the end and use it to dredge ponds. PS I wish I had it as I'm looking for one to do jjust this.

Of course, as a tank you will get the full use of it...but with the cost of steel these days...
most tanks are sheet steel (put through a roller)
I've found it very easy to cut sections and flatten it out by pounding on a hard flat surface with a wooded post...works great on projects where heavier sheet metal is required...

I've used smaller tanks to add weight (filling with water) to box blades etc...

another project I made from an old tank is trash incinerator...
an opening (door) in the bottom and an elevated fire grill fastened above the top of the opening (door)...with the opening facing into the wind... this thing will burn trash/debris about 4 times faster than a ground fire...the door allows easy removal of ashes...

rain collection barrel? underground storage/root cellar for taters and other veggies? smoker/bbq grill? rodent proof storage? heat exchanger tank for solar hot water project (just add insulation and two threaded bungs)? grain storage? primary fermenter for wine/beer making? fuel storage (diesel, gas, kerosene, heating oil)? shop/barn wood stove?

those are off the top of my head. don't scrap it!

All excellent ideas to work with....except the heat exchanger. The tank is probabally just mild steel, which is not suitable for domestic water, old hot water heaters are a better way to go as they are galvanized or plastic.

But I really like the smoker/bbq idea:D

As /pine said, build a trash incinerator, (if your not in city limits);) I built one out of an old ( I mean WAY OLD), galvaninzed water heater, old trampoline frame for the legs, and a pc of well casing for chimney. Burns trash like no 55 gal drum will ever do. In winter I can sift out nails, tin, etc. and scatter ashes on snowbanks to help melt them down faster. Even do it on driveway concrete and it won't damage the concrete the way salt will;)

If you need a plow for your lawn tractor or 4 wheeler the curve of a tank is perfect. Take a look at "Front blade for almost free". That is what I just made mine out of, if you are creative with a welder and a little angle Iron almost free.:)

I made a sprayer out of a propane tank. You could do the same with the air tank. Run a spray hose from your drain port. Fill the tank about halfway with your chosen ag chemical and then pressure it up with air as high as you want.

It's amazing how fun it is to kill weeds with 100 PSI roundup.

Couple that tank with LBrown59's fuel transfer setup and you'd be the envy of the neighborhood.:)
