Mud hole tried to eat my tractor!

Wow, I wish my puddles were that small. From much experience with mud{better word MUCK}, I can say try to make a natural run off{not allways possible}. If you can't do that then find some gravel and start filling, don't be afraid of using rocks. That should be all that hard to fix.

Loggers would build crossings in wet areas by laying logs perpendicular to trail and covering with dirt. Distributes the weight and leaves a way for the water to flow below the dirt. Worked real well in a much bigger wet area at my place.

MarkV makes a good point, done it many of times. One thing though is that the slabs or logs do have away of working themselves to the top and can become a real pain{if this is a heavly traveled spot}.

yup, adding dirt to hole with water just makes a bigger mess.(don't ask how I know ) Since you already added dirt and got stuck again, I say you are at the point where you gotta let it dry out. Only then you be able to rework the hole as long its not a spring.

Like the others said, ROCK'S. I would start with ones about the size of basketballs or bigger then progressively smaller then top it with dirt.

The pipeline crews use that technique up here to cross the muskeg all of the time. We've always called them corduroy roads.

Glad you got it out. One thing I would like to mention: About 20 years ago I used a boating rope (looked like a climbing rope) one time to pull out another tractor. Rope stretched then broke and took out 20 saplings about 6 inches above ground. It was scary. I use chain now or specially designed tow rope.

The rope was at least 1/2 inch in dia. still broke. Will never use rope again - it was dangerous.

and never use any metal on the end of dynamic rope or webbing.went thru back glass of pickup thru inside of cab and shattered windshield.

Just dump a bunch of rock on it, pack it, add more then drive over.
