I was talking about looking for a baler at work and it turns out my coworker has an old 14T or 24T with a poney motor under a tarp at home. The engine doesn't run well I believe it's one of the old 2 cycle engines. Does anyone know if you can still get part for those old engines? and if you can't is it worth converting to pto. Or has anyone swaped another engine onto one of these?

Thanks

The bulk of them were Wisconsin engines and I believe that parts are available for them..

Magneto parts are getting a little harder to find.

I think I found an online source for some of the magneto parts.

Has anyone swapped in another engine on them? I was hoping if someone had they could relay what engine made an easier swap.

I think the Wisconsin is a 4 cycle flat head design they are good motors
I would look in to getting it running it shouldn't be major unless the magneto is bad or something
See if it turn's over by hand with the plugs out.

It's a four cycle, no mix. Sorry for the confusion.

Those old Wisc baler engines came in two styles...2 cyl and 4 cyl air cooled...which do you have? They would start relatively easy when cold but don't turn them off and expect to have them start easily after they are hot...How may V-belts between the engine and the baler flywheel? Parts are relatively easy to locate on the web...have the mag rebuilt if there is a place near you...good luck and keep us posted.....with pics (grin)...BobG in VA

I'd get a PTO kit for it. With today's independent and live power options, you're a lot more productive and fuel efficient (and safe) with tractor power. There are a few YouTube videos showing balers with pony motors running them. I can check the parts book to see how much is needed for a conversion if you are interested. Lots of scrap parts around, too. I used my Yanmar 220D in front of my 14T with no trouble at all (not even live power on it).

Thanks for the info,

I'm planning on going to see it shortly, so I'll then be able to check it out.
