Well, we are usually starting to dry out by now. Hot dang, our weather reporters were off for this weekend. Suppossed to be a soaking rain Friday eve. No... It has been raining all weekend! It is goo, we need it. But, they never expected as much as we have been getting!

I just noticed this story in the Denton Record Chronicle which is the first I've heard of any flood damage from Saturday's rain.

Let's hope you don't get enough rain to cause mudslides, but it's always been my impression that any spring rain in California was a good thing. I'm sure you have a smile on your face even though it was unexpected.

While a lot of people here "took a beating" from this last round of storms, it was a perfect event for me. I found myself out mowing very green grass (and weeds) yesterday. :)

Nothing of note here. We had a pretty constant mild rain. There were some break. Three days of it though; interesting out here. It is still spring though...

I have mowing and weedeating to do here, so does my Dad on his place, about 20 minutes away(he uses my tractor/mower).

We woke up this morning to some pretty intense thunder!!! The storm looks like it's about over for now with an inch of rain, so it was a good, quick downpour with allot of noise to it. I enjoy the thunder, but a few times it was so loud and intense that it made the kids scream. For whatever reason, that always makes me laugh.

Eddie, it didn't start around here until about 8 a.m. and we, too, had the most, and loudest, thunder and lightning that I've seen in a long time. I was in Walmart, and could hear the loud thunder when the lights went out in Walmart, but then came right back on. And when I went out, it was just barely starting to rain. I think it may be all over now and we only got a quarter of an inch.

Starting to dry out around here. Got most of the grass cut over the last week. Watering the gardens every other day.

The good news is that the county was down the road replacing some of the major drainage culverts. Now if they will just move down the road to our end.

This one missed us this morning. It went just to the east of us. That's okay, my garden is doing just fine. I spent half the day yesterday cutting my lawn and putting in another flowerbed. Perhaps it will be dry enough today to get back to work on my retainer wall. I've had a setback because the cut telephone poles I wanted to use to build the wall are in big demand. The sawmill told me 10 weeks lead time. I have no desire to be building a retainer wall in the middle of July. I think I'll be using CCA treated 4x6s or 4x4s from Lowes.

Another round of bright lightning and loud thunder about 3 a.m. today, heavy rain for awhile, then very light rain that continues now. So far, I've gotten just a little over and inch and a half (glad I mowed the yard yesterday).

I was just checking the lake levels in this area and found:
Lake Lewisville +.2'
Lake Ray Roberts +1.25'
Lake Ray Hubbard +.17'
Lake Grapevine -3.93'

I don't know why Grapevine is still low, but the others are just about right; full or normal level, but with no flooding.

Mornin Bird,

I've been watching the Radar this morning and still don't know if we'll get any of it or not. I can't figure out what way it's moving. I'm about 2/3's of the way done with disking my pasture and then want to get the seed out before it gets here, but don't know when that will be, or if it will even happen. Our forecast is 60% for rain, but it's pretty vague when that will happen.

Yep, Eddie, this one is a little unusual. I know we had a pretty strong wind early this morning that blew the rain all the way across our patio in the breezeway. That's 22' plus 2' eaves on either side. But at least since daylight, it's just about a dead calm here at my house and the radar makes it look like the rain isn't moving; it just varies back and forth from a little heavier to a little lighter. And our forecast is for an 80% chance of precipitation today with 10 to 15 mph winds, gusting to 20:D and a 30% chance tonight.

Bird, look at this list.

N. TX Lake Levels

Lake Bridgeport is down -8' as of 5/14/2009. That pretty much shows the story form most of Wise County. It seems everything west of I-35E is seeing limited rain while counties to the east show heavier than normal rainfall. We got just under 1" of rain in last night's storm compared to your 1-1/2". That's just the way it has been this year. Things are very green now, but we are still way behind overall.

I hadn't seen that website before, Jim. That's a pretty good one, and I see Lake Whitney is down 9'. That was my favorite fishing lake years ago. And we continue to get very light sprinkles and my gauge is now up to 1.8".

I know some of the northern TBNers will laugh at me, but the last two mornings it's been 48 degrees here at 6 am. That's pretty darn cool for the middle of May in Texas. I love it!:)

7.3 inches so far...year half gone....behind a lot....annual average rainfall should be about 33 inches....grass green but short...tanks are puddles sure to dry up this summer....will sell more cows....can't fight a drought.

We are only 20 miles to the northwest of you, Texasjohn and we have had just over 13 inches so far this year. It must have something to do with I35, could it be all of those CO2 emissions . I'll give Al a call and ask his opinion ;).

We're also about ten inches below normal in rain, which I didn't realize. We had a dry beginning of the year, but a wet fall, so my ponds were already just about full. They are still full, but it's been much cooler then normal this year also. The prediction yesterday was for warmer weather, but with the series of storms coming in this weekend, temps are staying down in the low 80's. I'm hoping to do some mowing this weekend, but if it's wet out, I'll finish off a set of plans for a client and work on my filing.

I hope you guys get some of this weather that they are predicting.

Eddie
