I have a 18' long car style trailer. I built a gravel storage area about 500 feet from my house. The problem is the trailer is closer to the main road than my house and over a little bit of a hill. Does anybody have good way to lock a trailer up to keep it from getting stolen? I have a lock on the latch for the ball but that's it. The only idea I can come up with is to sink a 4x4 post near it and chain it to that, but that seems to easy to break off or cut off. Any ideas?

Other than what you have done and/or chaining to a tree or post, their is not much you can do.

A good saying comes to mind...It they want it bad enough, there is nothing you can do to stop them.

Not sure of the name...Rhino/boot??...device you clamp/lock on wheel/hub like the parking officers use.

As LD1 said if they want it bad enough etc...

Your home owners will cover it on your property. Like the others say, if they want it they will get it. Best thing you could do is park it out of site or plant some shrubs or trees around its current spot to hide it from eyes.

And when it's time for a new trailer or new decking, or something goes wrong with the trailer........cut down the shrubs, or park it out by the road, and don't put any anti-theft devices on it.:D

For my trailer I use a hitch lock plus the trailer is usually blocked in between trees and the truck when I'm not using the truck. If I park the trailer where it can't be blocked in I still use the hitch lock and a heavy duty cable lock through the spokes of two trailer wheels. The cable lock cable is too big to cut with bolt cutters. Thieves would need a torch to cut it off. If they want it bad enough they will get it. Then I'd submit a claim with the insurance company to replace it.

hitch latch, chain or a boot are good options.

Have you looked into a electronic tracker like LoJack? I have no idea on price, but with one you could get your trailer back and help put the scumbags in jail.

Hi,

The boots are available for many types of trailers and do offer a fair amount of security.

GPS snitch is a nice product and has good perimeter protection.

Have a great nite.
