John Deere 4720 Cab
Yesterday I went to the John Deere dealer to have a look at a 3720 with cab. I went around it, I sat in it and I looked it over. I am in love. This is a dream tractor. It has everything one could wish for. On top of it, it is quite like a Labrador puppy. One wants to take it home to the kids

Next to it was a 4520 without a cab. I went around it, I sat in it and I looked it over. And I started thinking: I have 78 acers to maintain. In 5 years, will I want to upgrade from the 3720? I would like to buy a tractor which will help me maintain my property in an efficient way for the next 20 years. After this purchase I do not want to have in the back of my head the nagging question 都hould I have gotten?. After paying John Deere a fortune, I want to be done with the topic of buying a tractor.

So, I am leaning towards buying a 4720 with cab (I know some of you guys recommended this to me already.).

AM I OUT OF MY MIND?:D

Nobody ever wishes they had a smaller less powerful machine!

If you got the dough go for the 4720 Cab. Erskine make a nice front mount snowblower, pricey but bullet proof. I have a 3720 Cab with a front mount blower and love it, I tried turning around and pushing snow but my neck hurt and and I keep hitting things when the front end would swing on the turns. You could run a big front plow as an option also.

I agree with the less powerful, but if I could get a 4720 the size of a lawn tractor without compromising stability I'd love it! The only problem is those pesky laws of physics - we could save a fortune if Congress would repeal them...

That said, there isn't a huge difference between a 3x20 and a 4x20 size-wise, not nearly to the extent there is between my little 2520 (which is very nimble and able to fit in my shed) and a 3x20. Besides, if you get the 4720 you can always say it's too big for the fine maneuvering and get a 2720 in a few years to augment it :)

No, you are not. The 4720 cab is not too big for many jobs at all. The e-hydro makes it easier to run and it the loader is way better than the one on the 3720.

Unless you want to run a 15' batwing, plow big areas, or run a decent size round baler - I think you are looking at the right tractor.

I bought a 4520 cab last year to replace my 4720 open station. We needed a cab to rake hay with - just too hot and nasty.

I went with the 4520 cab because i didn't need the extra power and saved some cash. What I was not aware of is that the 4720 comes standard with the air ride seat. I paid to add that to my 4520. So, the reality is I saved maybe $1K or so.

The 09s have more power and economy PTO. I don't miss either on my 08 4520 but just something else to be happy about. With smaller PTO implements - the economy PTO can save fuel.

Speaking of fuel - both my 4520 and 5525 sip fuel unless I am really working them. I thought my 5525 sucked fuel with my 15' batwing - nothing compared to the 10'6" disc mower and hay baler.

4720 cab with all the gadgets is what I would do in your case.

Your next post should be - what accessories.

Then the post after that will be - which tires.

We all have gone thru it - atleast you might not have to buy 2-3-4 tractors to get it right.

I went 2210 -> 4720 -> 5525 -> 4520 cab.

Of course they didn't make a cab in the smaller tractor before and we bought more land. The nice thing is if you buy this stuff right - they actually hold their value nicely.

Or snag a z track.

4720 cab and a z track would be a good combo.

FRIZ,
Now your talking, do it once and do it right. Go for the loaded 4720 cab tractor with accesories, attachments and implements in one package.
There are tons of threads on here with guys moving up a notch at a time, this can be very costly. I would expect a discount of 15 to 20% with a package deal regardless of financing or cash.

You will need to think hard as to if you want the mid mount mower or not.

For the price of it and the headache of taking it on or off. Go for a rear finishing mower or buy another mower like a zero turn mower.

I had a 2210 with a 62" MMM and I bought my 4720. I decided to move up to a z track (4720 would do everything the 2210 could do and more except mow my yard.)

I tried out a 757 z-track and brought it home. I thought my 2210 was good and fast. The 2210 would cut anything and sip diesel, but the z track cut my mowing time down by over an hour.

Hi everybody:

Thank you for bringing up these very valuable points. I want to buy an Erskine rear pull snow blower. And keep my loader on for additional help with the snow.

Later this year we plan to add an x749 (with mower deck) to cut grass around the house and pond.

Both John Deere dealerships I have talked to think that the 3720 is big enough for me. But both concede that with a 3720 I could be back in five years for an upgrade. And that is definitely something I do not want to do.

Regards,
FRIZ
