How hard is it to replace shocks?

So what would happen if I put air shocks on the rear and regular shocks on the front?

Nothing would happen. Air shocks on back give you the ability to adjust how much extra support you want to add to help with tongue weight. HD Gas shocks on front would be fine as well.

This is why I perked up at the thought of the air shocks. Adjustable.

Personally I've never been a fan of air shocks. Yeah they'll jack up the rear and stiffen the ride. But when we ran them is seemed to be an all or nothing thing. Maybe they've gotten better.

Unless you are hauling it all over the place, I'd leave it alone, go with regular shocks. I bring my tractor home maybe 3 times a year, I sit on 55, stay in the right lane and watch things slowly go by!

If you want to improve towing, as you previously stated, you want air bags, not air shocks.

I agree air bags would be alot better alternative than air shocks. Air shocks would put the shock mounts under alot of stress with a big load. Air bags put the weight on top of the axle. And you could "air down" when empty to salvage factory ride quality. I'd just go with some good 50/50 shocks and take a different route for higher load capacity

Nothing bad would happen with air shocks on the back and regular shocks on
the front.
I would recommend air bags over air shocks in almost every situation.

Air shocks typically don't ride well and seem to fail after only a couple years.

Yeah air shocks suck. If you are overloading your truck and need to level it out, they work great, but you shouldn't be doing that anyway. I have never heard of anyone using air shocks on the front, only on the back. Just use gas shocks and you will be better off.
