You go first.

I always thought it was to support the rear of the mower at a specific height for a more even cut. With the mower deck weight resting on the wheel, it also takes some strain off the 3pt hitch, not that it shouldn't be able to handle it.

The tailwheel sets the cutting height. The lower three point links carry the front of the cutter and establish the pitch and yaw of the deck. The toplink supports the cutter in transport position and helps carry the rear of the cutter over low spots, helping to lessen scalping on uneven terrain.

The tail wheel and two lift arms provide three-point suppport for the deck while the blades are spinning. The tail wheel is also used to ballpark the cutting height. Once established, the two lift arms are subsequently adjusted to approximate that height. Typically the final lift arm cutting height adjustment should leave the deck at least one inch lower in the front than in the rear to facilitate discharge.

The tail wheel mainly for uneven ground. If it wasn't there, backing up to or comming down a hill, the rear of the deck would dig into the ground. And when going up hill, it takes the weight off the 3PH to allow you to steer and not do a backflip up a steep grade.

What does rofl stand for?

And if you use a chain for top link,it will stay on the ground a lot more.

ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING

And if you use a chain for top link,it will stay on the ground a lot more.

or a toggle that should have been supplied with the mower so it floats behind the tractor.
