Find an older JD 455 with a 60" deck. They are diesel and use less than half the amount of fuel as a gas engine. They are built like a tank and a good used one can be found for that price.

Like pilot-werx said , there is alot of used rigs out there very capable ...

I just seen on Machine Finder the other day a couple of nice JD430's , they
are also Diesel and very stout , they were in the $4000.00 range ...

I agree, if it doesnt have to be "new" Look into the older 318, 332 or 420/430 tractors. I picked up a nice 318 with a new P220 20hp Onan in it for 1500 with a good 50" mower deck that runs almost silent. Engine should be good for many more years with proper maintance. The diesels are nice, but more expensive when things do go wrong. I work at a dealership (Cub Cadet/Yanmar) and see my fair share of all brands. I personaly like the simple air cooled twin thats in my 318. She is built like a tank, has power steering (which is really nice if you have lots of turns when cutting) and I have most of my rear 3pt hitch installed. The attachments for the older 300 and 400 class John Deeres are easily found and quite afforadabe compared to new. Cheers Mike T

That's what I was looking for when I found this.



A lot more tractor for a lot less money.
